Vengeance is a level 94 Lunar spell that rebounds 75% of the damage taken in the next hit back to the opponent dealing it. The player will say "Taste vengeance!" when the rebound is activated. Vengeance can only be cast once every 30 seconds, and the spell icon will be greyed out if the spell is on cooldown. Additionally, the effect will wear off upon logout or when teleporting into a player-owned house.

As with all Lunar spells, the quest Lunar Diplomacy must be completed to cast Vengeance.

Mechanics

Reflected damage

Vengeance reflects 75% of damage taken back to an opponent. The damage is always rounded down to the nearest integer, but has a minimum of 1.

As an example, if an opponent deals 80 points of damage, the player reflects 60 (80 * 0.75) points of damage. If the opponent instead deals 81 points of damage, the player will still reflect 60 points of damage because 60.75 (81 * 0.75) rounds down. If the opponent deals just 1 point of damage, the player will reflect 1 point of damage back.

Vengeance's effect does stack with the ring of recoil.

Use in PvP

Vengeance is popular in PvP, especially when an opponent is using hard-hitting weapons such as a godswords or Dharok the Wretched's equipment, since it is possible to rebound large amounts of damage back onto the opponent.

Player killers sometimes remove their armour when attacking with Vengeance activated, in order to increase the damage potentially done by their opponent. This strategy has the potential for a strong rebound effect. Players seeking to counter the strategy can simply strike the player with a lower-hitting weapon to minimise the full potential of this spell.

If players desire to hide the Vengeance animation from an opponent, they must cast Vengeance at the exact same tick as the start of another weapon animation, such as the Armadyl godsword special attack. The Vengeance animation will then be cancelled, hiding its activation from opponents.

Rebounding all damage

Wearing Dharok the Wretched's equipment whilst wearing an amulet of the damned along with rings of recoil makes it possible for players to rebound 100% of damage received in a single hit back onto their opponent. Runes can be provided with a Blighted vengeance sack, although it is restricted to the Wilderness only.

Exceptions

The rebound effect of Vengeance will not be activated on poison, venom or disease hits, and does not count towards Smite drains if used in PvP. Additionally, some monsters are immune to it. The following monsters are known to be immune to recoil effects:

Vengeance cannot be cast while in a player-owned house. Any active Vengeance casts will be removed from the player if they enter one.

(update)

The Vengeance spell no longer disrupts a player's walk animation unless they're already in a PvP area when they cast it, intending to minimise affecting genuine PvP situations while limiting the ability to lure using the spell.
