Magic Imbue enables the caster to craft combination runes by removing the requirement for opposing talismans to be present in the inventory for 12.6 seconds. To craft combination runes after casting Magic Imbue, players must use the opposing runes on the Runic altar. For example, to create lava runes at the Earth Altar, players would use fire runes on the altar after casting Magic Imbue. This spell can only be cast once every 12.6 seconds (21 game ticks).
You will still need to bring pure essence.
Note: The spell does not increase the 50% chance of success when crafting combination runes. For a 100% chance of success, a binding necklace is still required.
Using a steam battlestaff or mystic steam staff substantially reduces the cost of Magic Imbue, along with reducing the effort of crafting combination runes, as some talismans can be quite expensive. On a related note, the difficulty of crafting dust, smoke and mist runes is reduced, as it becomes economically viable to craft these runes at the Air Altar outside Falador, due to the proximity to a bank.
Magic Imbue can also be cast without being at an altar, and will still provide Magic experience. This can be a useful way to train Magic while training other skills such as Agility, Mining, or Hunter. It is about 23k experience per hour by casting Magic Imbue repeatedly. Theoretically, the max amount is 24,571 assuming the spell is cast consistently every 21 ticks. For this method, it is highly recommended to use a staff that provides runes, particularly a variation of the steam battlestaff, or staff of water and tome of fire to save on runes. This reduces spell cost by up to 70 coins per cast.
