The Earth Altar is a runic altar upon which earth runes are crafted from rune essence or pure essence, providing 6.5 Runecraft experience per essence imbued. Level 9 Runecraft is required to craft earth runes.

Players may create an earth tiara here by using either an earth talisman or a tiara on the altar whilst having both in their inventory, granting 32.5 Runecraft experience. An elemental tiara can also be created here by using an elemental talisman and gold tiara, granting 40 Runecraft experience.

Upon entering the Earth Altar, the music track Down to Earth plays.

</mapframe> The entrance to the altar can be found north-east of Varrock, south of the sawmill, the altar can also be accessed through the Abyss.

To enter the mysterious ruins, players either have to use an earth talisman on the ruins, or click "Enter" on the ruins while wearing an earth tiara. Alternatively, an elemental talisman or tiara can be used.

Combination runes

It is possible to make mud runes, dust runes, and lava runes while at this altar, but at a 50% success rate. This will result in less runes than normal being made. To make a combination rune, the player needs one set of elemental runes, a stack of pure essence, and 2 talismans.

Note that players need to use the opposing rune on the altar to craft combination runes. Simply clicking on the altar would just result in regular elemental runes.

Magic Imbue negates the need of a talisman.

If the player equips a binding necklace, the success rate will increase to 100%. The necklace has a total of 16 uses before breaking. A charge is used each time a batch of combination runes is crafted, instead of each time the altar is entered or for each rune crafted.

• Making some earth runes in the Earth Altar is an easy task in the Varrock Diary and crafting 100 earth runes in a single trip is an elite task.
