Large pouches are bags that can hold 9 rune, pure, daeyalt, or guardian essence for use in the Runecraft skill. This item requires level 50 Runecraft to use. This item is dropped by monsters within the Abyss. It can also be acquired as a reward from Guardians of the Rift by searching the Rewards Guardian.

This is the third best essence pouch after the colossal pouch, giant pouch, and before the medium pouch and small pouch.

After it has been used to store 261 essence (or approximately 29 full uses), the pouch will degrade and only hold 7 essence. Further uses degrade the capacity to 5 and then 3 and eventually the pouch disintegrate completely on continuous use if not repaired. Like other essence pouches, the Large pouch does not degrade if the player is wearing a Runecraft cape or max cape when filling it.

To repair the pouch so it can hold the maximum of nine essence again, players may speak to the dark mage located in the centre of the Abyss, who will repair essence pouches for free. Players may also use the NPC Contact Lunar spell to contact the dark mage to have pouches repaired. Cordelia in the Temple of the Eye is also able to repair essence pouches at a cost of one abyssal pearl, though this service requires 25 abyssal pearls to unlock first.

Dropping the pouch while it contains essence will result in the essence in it being lost. A message will pop up that tells the player: The contents of the pouch fell out as you dropped it!

During the Devious Minds quest, a large pouch can be used to hold an orb. Players will lose the pouch when they use it for the quest, so they will have to get another from the Abyss or the Rewards Guardian from Guardians of the Rift. The pouch must be in full condition to hold the orb, so if it is degraded, players must repair it before using it in the quest.

The pouch is only dropped if the player does not already have one in their inventory or bank, and lower-tiered pouches are owned. The Runecraft level (50) is not necessary to have in order for the pouch to be dropped.

Essence pouches will no longer degrade if a Runecrafting skillcape or Max cape is worn while filling the pouch. Existing pouches which are degraded will not be repaired in any way with this change, but they will also not degrade any further whilst a Runecrafting skillcape or Max cape is worn.
