Dark essence fragments are items created by using a chisel on dark essence blocks, providing 8 Crafting experience per block. Each block will create 4 pieces of essence, which are used to runecraft blood and soul runes. Players cannot hold more than 108 fragments at a time, with 111 at a maximum if a stack of 108 is picked up while holding a stack of 4+. The fragments cannot be stored in a bank. Dark essence fragments vanish upon death.

• Blood runes can be made at Kourend's Blood Altar at 77 Runecraft (can be boosted) and will provide 23.8 experience per dark essence fragment.

• Soul runes can be made at 90 Runecraft and will provide 29.7 experience per dark essence fragment.
