Damis is one of the four guardians of the Diamonds of Azzanadra, fought only when doing the Desert Treasure I quest. He is the only guardian who exclusively uses melee to attack, however this is made up by him having two forms, with the second form being able to attack at a quick rate as well as draining Prayer rapidly. As with most monsters in the Shadow Dungeon, Damis allows other monsters to pass through him.

He can be fought in the Nightmare Zone after the quest is complete.

Location

The Shadow Dungeon.

He is found at the end of the Shadow Dungeon, which is accessed via a ladder requiring the ring of visibility to see. When approaching Damis' location, the player will be told in their chatbox that they hear a voice from the walls telling them to turn back.

Strategy

A player using a giant rat to safespot Damis.

Much harder than mid-level quest bosses like Arrg, Damis has higher Defence against melee and Ranged, so it is recommended to use Magic. Iban's staff, trident of the seas, or trident of the swamp are all effective options. Protect from Melee will mitigate all damage from Damis, however, his second form has higher stats, attacks faster, and drains Prayer rapidly when within melee distance.

The best method to defeat Damis is by safespotting him, get the aggression of a bat or giant rat found nearby and lure Damis behind alongside the other aggressive monsters. Only the bat and giant rats will prevent Damis and the other aggressive monsters from pathing to the player. An alternative method to using the bat or giant rat is to use the assistance of another player to block Damis' path. Using a binding spell such as Snare or Entangle on Damis or other monsters in the area may also be helpful.

If the player is struggling to safe spot Damis, they can bring a lot of prayer potions and use protect from melee to fight him directly. When engaging his second form, it is recommended to lure Damis back up the entrance tunnel into the single-combat zone. The prayer drain effect makes it difficult to melee Damis in a multi-combat zone because of damage from other aggressive monsters. By engaging Damis alone, it may be possible to rely on high-healing food to reclaim hit points instead of prayer potions to protect from damage.

Quotes

During Damis' second form, he may say one of the following quotes per game tick when he is close up to the player:

  • I will crush you utterly!
  • You are no match for my power!
  • Taste my blade and feel my wrath!
  • I... am... invincible!
  • Your pathetic skill won't help you now! (when having Protect from Melee active)
  • You will regret ever coming here!
  • Hah! I fear not your feeble power!

Trivia

  • Damis (دامِسٌ) is an Arabic word meaning "dark" or "gloomy", used to describe a severe absence of light.
  • Damis is the only boss from Desert Treasure I that does not appear in the Recipe for Disaster quest, likely because his prayer draining ability would be rendered useless due to the boss fight not allowing prayer.
  • Players believed Damis was specifically weak to earth spells, but this was proven incorrect by Mod Ash.[1]
