Platinum tokens are a currency that can be obtained by using coins on any banker, exchanging for a static rate of 1,000 coins per token.

Platinum tokens can be used to replace large amounts of coins, especially more than the stack limit of 2,147,483,647, due to the guaranteed exchange rate. This is useful for storing or trading for amounts higher than the limit. They can only be used for trading with players and not buying from e.g. a shop. For example, if the street value of an item is 4 billion coins, players can instead trade 4 million platinum tokens for the item, or use a combination of coins and tokens to equal the same amount. Taking this into account, 2,147,483,647 tokens equals 2,147,483,647,000, which could be considered the "true" limit for a stack of coins.

Five platinum tokens are needed to build the tip jar in a player-owned house.

Scams

Platinum tokens are used in several scams. A common use is for someone to claim that they're offering "max cash" for your items, and then offer 2,147 tokens, hoping that the player will believe the sum to be worth 2,147,000,000 coins rather than its actual value, which is merely 2,147,000 coins. When trading with tokens, always make sure that you multiply the number of tokens by 1,000, and compare that to the number at the bottom of the trade screen.
