Mort'ton is located in Morytania, south of the Mort Myre Swamp. The town is populated with undead, like the afflicted and shades. The town has a general store and is the start for the Shades of Mort'ton quest and the Shades of Mort'ton minigame. If you are doing the Shades of Mort'ton quest it is best for players to go to world 377 to build the temple as most people are there building the temple. Barrows can be found just east of the city.
History
Mort'ton was once a quiet market town that specialised in death. By using the natural caves underneath the town as tombs, Mort'ton became a centre for burials. Unfortunately, a strange mist sent from the Sanguinesti region cursed the villagers of Mort'ton, turning them into afflicted. Some of the dead interred below began to appear on the surface, known as shades.
Only the weakest of the shades, called Loar shades, roam the surface around Mort'ton. The stronger shades - phrin, riyl, asyn, fiyr and urium shades reside in the caves that they were buried in. Whatever dark force that revived them keeps them in Mort'ton, as none of these shades have ever been seen in Mort Myre.
Getting there
- Mort'ton teleport scroll
- Grouping teleport to Shades of Mort'ton (after completion of Shades of Mort'ton)
- Barrows Teleport (spell or tablet) - run west across the bridge
- Teleport to Burgh de Rott using Morytania legs 3 or higher and run north past the gate
- Fairy ring code BIP (requires partial completion of Fairytale II - Cure a Queen, and 50 Agility to cross the stepping stone east into Mort Myre Swamp) - follow the winded path east

- "Mort" in multiple European languages means dead or death, while "-ton" is a common suffix for place names.
