The broav is an animal obtained from the hunting expert, after having her train the unconscious broav that the player catches, during While Guthix Sleeps. It is used to track the location of Movario's Base via his scent from his dirty shirt.

Though its RuneScape counterpart is considered as a pet, dropping the broav will only have it stand adjacent to the player, rather than follow them like a true pet; despite this, players cannot drop it while having a true pet following them. However, it can be stored in the menagerie of a player-owned house to have it wander around like a pet.

Moving too far away from the broav will cause it to return to your inventory. If your inventory is full, the broav will go feral and disappear.
