Item ID2

Cannonballs are ammunition used in the Dwarf multicannon. After partial completion of the Dwarf Cannon quest, with 35 Smithing and an ammo mould, they can be made using a steel bar on a furnace yielding 25.6 Smithing experience and 4 cannonballs. With completion of the Sleeping Giants quest and purchasing the double ammo mould from Giants' Foundry, the double ammo mould can be used instead of a normal ammo mould to use two steel bars at the same time, yielding 8 cannonballs instead of 4 in the same period of time.

Granite dust can be used on cannonballs to create granite cannonballs, which have a higher max hit. This requires level 50 Smithing and yields no experience.

A player smithing cannonballs.

Making cannonballs is a popular method for players to train Smithing and profit without requiring much input or attention. A full inventory takes 159.6 seconds to process using Make-X. Optimal speeds yield nearly 14,000 Smithing experience per hour from converting a total of 540 steel bars into 2,160 cannonballs when using the Prifddinas furnace. Using a furnace closer to a bank will increase efficiency.

Players can also smelt one iron ore and two coal to make the steel bars and then use them to make cannonballs without returning to a bank, but it is very slow. Unless using the Blast Furnace with a coal bag, the profit gained from creating your own steel bars is far less than using premade steel bars.

The double ammo mould from Giants' Foundry almost doubles production and experience rates.

Trivia

  • Cannonballs had a festive override to look like christmas puddings during the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Christmas events. The override had a darker colour in 2019 compared to 2017 and 2018.
  • Making a cannonball uses the same animation as when a player buries bones.
