Dorgesh-Kaan is the underground capital city of the Dorgeshuun tribe, home to the Dorgeshuun cave goblins.
Dorgesh-Kaan can only be accessed after completion of Death to the Dorgeshuun quest.
You can get to the city by first going from the Lumbridge Castle cellar to Dorgeshuun Mine and then south past Mistag and the weapon shop. If you want to skip the walk back, talk to Mistag and he will bring you to Lumbridge Cellar again. You can also do this when travelling to the Dorgeshuun Mine by talking to Kazgar.
Introduction
During the God Wars, the Dorgeshuun ("Goblins of the Strong Spears", in the ancient goblin language[1]), were like other goblins at the time: a war-driven tribe enlisted to fight for their "Big High War God", Bandos.[2] However, the Dorgeshuun, at one point, became resistant to the idea of having to sacrifice their lives for their god and, after being sent off to do battle for him once more, they instead sneaked off into a hole where they could hide from his wrath.[3] After a cave-in, their refuge had been cut-off from the surface world until recent events involving the player. The city was founded around 2900 years ago during the Fourth Age, though the leadership began to shift from their generals to the council that advised them.[4] A civil war erupted and subsequently ended with the council-led republic of the Dorgeshuun victorious, the city continued developing to become one of the largest cities in RuneScape in the swamp-like Lumbridge underground, complete with its unique technologies and culture.[5][6] In the present day, the city is open to Lumbridge visitors after Mistag and the cave goblin miners accidentally breached the walls of the Lumbridge Castle cellar and a peace treaty was signed between Dorgesh-Kaan and Lumbridge.
They are still currently led by a republic of seven councils who convene at the Dorgeshuun Council chamber for whatever executive functions need to be done.[7]
The elaborate city makes use of metal wires and light orbs in their city-wide lamppost system, as well as bones for construction material such as for their market stalls and for propping up mining tunnels.[8] The Dorgeshuun have their own unique cuisine, obtainable through trading and exchanging with marketplace goblins who will swap Dorgeshuun foods for the player's food from the surface world.[9]
Transportation
There are multiple ways of accessing Dorgesh-Kaan (although it is not as accessible as other cities that can be quickly reached via a spellbook teleport spell or teleportation jewelry):
- A player may use a Dorgesh-kaan sphere, obtained from Oldak, for a one-click teleport to the city.
- There is a fairy ring in the dungeon to the south that may be accessed with the code AJQ. A light source is needed in the dungeon, although it is not wholly necessary (damage will be taken!). Players run north-west to a northern dead-end, and up the grey ladder that is attached to the wall. It is required to finish Death to the Dorgeshuun to use this fairy ring.
- Players may enter the crack in the eastern wall of the cellar of Lumbridge Castle, through which Kazgar waits to lead players through the Dorgesh-Kaan mine. The entrance to Dorgesh-Kaan is just to the south of where Kazgar leaves the player. Note that in order to follow Kazgar through the mines, the player is required to bring a light source.
- The city can be accessed from the Kalphite Hive through the Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon to the south of the city, although a light source is required.
- Upon the completion of Another Slice of H.A.M., the Dorgesh-Kaan–Keldagrim train system may be used to travel to Dorgesh-Kaan from Keldagrim by rail, and vice versa. The tickets are free; a player only needs to wait less than a minute in the carriage for the departure. In Dorgesh-Kaan, the train station is located through a doorway on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US], in the south-west corner of the city. In Keldagrim, access the train station in the south-east corner of the city, through a doorway near the train tracks just south-east of the Blast Furnace.
Notable features
- The marketplace. Reldak the armourer will sell Frog-leather armour and most of the other merchants will sell goblin cuisine. Players may sell surface foods to gourmets; the payout varies and depends on the food.
- The Dorgesh-Kaan Agility Course can be found south of the city; it requires 70 Agility. An alternative route using a Mithril grapple requires 70 Strength and 70 Ranged and provides Ranged experience.
- A bank.
- Below the Agility course is a dungeon, the Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon. It has a unique Slayer monster called a Molanisk, and both large and small varieties of cave bugs.
- Exchanging rare bones for construction experience. This can be done by talking to Barlak, located just west of the marketplace. Each Long bone is worth 4,500 Construction experience and each Curved bone is worth 6,750 Construction experience, requiring level 30 Construction to make the trade.
- Various cave goblins in the marketplace will trade unique Dorgeshuun cuisine made from local underground critters (which can also be obtained by pickpocketing cave goblins. Talking with Gourmets will allow the player to purchase or exchange food with them and have ~1/3 chance of giving Loach, Eel sushi, Mushrooms, Grubs à la mode, Roast frog, or Fillets.
