Gout tubers are a rare seed and food obtained from Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup. It can be planted in a herb patch requiring 29 Farming and completion of Eadgar's Ruse to grow goutweeds. Due to its rarity, it is often only used for the medium Karamja Diary task of trading Safta Doc a gout tuber, 3 specific unnoted gems, and trading sticks for a gem machete. It cannot be planted at the disease-free Troll Stronghold herb patch, nor the patch at Weiss. Although gout tubers may be planted, they cannot be stored in the Seed vault or a Seed box. As with other herbs, it is not possible to pay a nearby gardener to watch over goutweed plants, nor will a fully-grown white lily plant protect them from disease.
Goutweed can be traded to Sanfew in Taverley, for a random herb per goutweed. Growing goutweed to trade with Sanfew is not recommended. The herbs received from Sanfew are random and gout tubers are very costly compared to standard herb seeds. If goutweed itself is needed, players should obtain it from the cellar at the Troll Stronghold due to the tuber's rarity and high trade value for its use in the medium Karamja Diary.
Gout tubers are edible. When eaten, a gout tuber heals 12 Hitpoints and restores 50 run energy. Eating one results in the message "You eat the tuber. Hmmm, peculiar taste! It heals some run energy. It heals some health anyway."
Gout tubers will be turned to rotten food if you are attacked by a Ghast in the Mort Myre swamp.
Obtaining
Gout tuber can only be obtained while hacking jungle during Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup, which has a 1% chance of occurring when an event is rolled,[1] which yields the message: "You hack away at the remaining bush to reveal an unusual plant."
The overall average time to receive an event is around 64 ticks with constant jungle interaction and with slight variation between Woodcutting levels. In practice the time will be slower due to interruptions from jungle depletion and events. A player with moderate concentration can expect a tuber on average close to 1 hour 15 minutes. It should be noted that this is an overall average, and due to the low frequency of expected rolls some players may have much longer times to receive a tuber.
Players will need to use a spade on the plant to dig up the gout tuber. Gout tubers will despawn after 10 minutes if not dug up. Gout tubers are locked to the player that found them for the duration that the player is logged in. Attempting to dig up someone else's gout tuber results in the message: "It's not yours to dig." As soon as the original owner of the tuber logs out, any player is able to dig up the tuber. The tuber will not re-lock to the original owner if the player logs back in. As soon as a player begins to dig up the tuber, it becomes locked to them and no one else is able to dig it up.

Average harvest yield
Goutweed has a minimum of 3 harvest lives, increasing by 1 for each tier of compost used (for a maximum of 6 when using ultracompost). While harvesting goutweed, there is a chance to not consume a harvest life dependent on the player's Farming level. This chance scales from 15.6% at level 1 to 31.6% at level 99, interpolating linearly in between.

Trivia
- A similar item to a Gout tuber identified as a Goutweedy lump appears in My Arm's Big Adventure when a human was boiled into a stew along with a lump of Gout tuber he possessed, the man was eaten but lumpy remnants of the tuber can be found in the Cooking Pot at Death Plateau.
- Before an update on 30 March 2017, gout tubers could immediately be dug up by other players. If a player left it alone after it appears, someone else could dig it up. After the update tubers were locked to players so long as they are logged in.
