The max hood is one of the rarest hoods in Runescape. It can be obtained from Mac when a player purchases a Max cape. It is available to players who have attained at least 99 in all 23 skills. Players may buy a set of the hood and the cape from Mac for 2,277,000 coins, which is 99,000 coins times 23, the number of skills. The hood itself provides absolutely no offensive or defensive bonuses and may be worn for purely aesthetic purposes.

While the hood is bought with the skillcape, it is not needed to perform the emote associated with it; the skillcape is the only essential item. Conversely, the max hood must be in the player's inventory when they are combining a max cape with other cape slot items, such as the fire cape.

Should players lose the hood, they may reclaim it from Mac for free.

This item can be stored in the cape rack of a costume room, as part of the Max cape set. Ultimate Ironmen will be unable to retrieve individual pieces until the full set is stored.
