Metal dragons

Metal dragons are dragons whose scales are coated in metal. Metal dragons were created by pouring molten metal on dragon eggs, few of which survived the process. Though some metallic dragons are seen with eggs nearby, they have yet to hatch, and no baby metallic dragons have yet to be seen. Compared to chromatic dragons, metal dragons have higher Defence and Magic levels, making them slightly harder to kill. They are still weak to stab and heavy ranged attacks. They are also susceptible to earth spells.

Bronze, iron and steel dragons fight with melee, while mithril, adamant and rune dragons also use ranged and magic attacks. All metal dragons are capable of long-range dragonfire, which is stronger than a chromatic dragon's; the Protect from Magic prayer, which gives fairly ample protection against a chromatic dragon's dragonfire, will have no effect against that from a metal dragon. They will not move towards the player, so a player can avoid their melee attacks by standing out of range. Steel and lower dragons are susceptible to poison and venom, while mithril and higher are immune to them.

Metal dragons drop metal bars when killed, which correspond to the type of metal dragon the player killed. For example, a steel dragon will drop steel bars, and an iron dragon would drop iron bars - the quantity of which depends on the quality of the metal. Bronze, iron and steel dragons drop five bars, mithril dragons drop three, adamant dragons drop two and rune dragons drop one bar of their respective material.

Metal dragons have various unique drops as a result of their increased difficulty over chromatic dragons. All metal dragons, excluding bronze ones, can drop the draconic visage. All dragons excluding the mithril dragon can drop dragon platelegs and plateskirts; the mithril dragon is the only monster that can drop dragon full helms. Adamant and rune dragons can drop dragon limbs; adamant dragons exclusively drop dragon metal slices, while rune dragons exclusively drop dragon metal lumps.
