Zorgoth is a Dactyl Dragonkin, and the primary antagonist of the Dragon Slayer II quest. Being part of the Dactyl sect, Zorgoth did not succumb to the violent rage of the dragonkin curse and instead attempted to find a cure for it. He was imprisoned inside Lithkren Vault for many years. He is most notable for contributing to the creation of dragons and directly responsible for adamant and rune dragons in addition to Vorkath and Galvek.

History

Third & Fourth Ages

During the Dragonkin Conflicts, he attempted to find a cure for the Curse. His first laboratory was in Crandor, which he summarily abandoned after finding a breakthrough and that he would need a larger laboratory for future experiments. Zorgoth would later establish a new fortress on Ungael, after sensing what was possibly remnants of the Stone's energy, or failing that, one of "her" other artefacts.

Samples from Lithkren were sent to the Ungael fortress on a daily basis, though most of these were often lost or damaged due to the massive distance between the two locations. Zorgoth used spores obtained from Lithkren as experiments on dragons, first of which he tried green dragons, but then suggested to use blue dragons after seeing that the spores had no effect on green dragons. During this time, he also discovered Skeka while exploring the nearby islands, who he believed to have been killed by the humans. Although they exchanged pleasantries at first, Skeka refused to allow Zorgoth to set foot on her island.

These resulted in the creation of a powerful dragon, although he was bitterly disappointed, calling it a "vorkath" (pathetic failure/weakling/runt in human language) as while it showed immense strength, it was not aggressive. Zorgoth created another one in the hopes of salvaging the experiment, but like the first, it only resulted in another vorkath, which he destroyed in a rage, although once he calmed down, he realized that he had severely miscalculated its usefulness.

Zorgoth would eventually order the construction of the Lithkren fortress due to its proximity to the samples he desired, and needing a larger laboratory. Eventually after hearing that human forces were on the move and that the Lithkren fortress was ready, Zorgoth abandoned the remaining Vorkath and the Ungael fortress, taking all of his important work with him. Skeka would eventually learn of the fortress and confronted Zorgoth on Lithkren, demanding that he leave. Zorgoth countered that once the humans came, they would also kill her.

Human forces led by Robert the Strong eventually discovered the Lithkren fortress and besieged it. As Zorgoth was experimenting in the Vault, its defence system activated and locked him inside. One of his fellow Dragonkin attempted to free him, but was killed by Robert and his allies. Despite being isolated for thousands of years, Zorgoth had enough resources inside the Vault to continue his experiments. These resources eventually led to the creation of a special dragon that possessed elemental powers and the ability to control other dragons. He decided to call this dragon Galvek, the Dragonkin word for fate. Alongside Galvek, Zorgoth also used what he had learned from Forcae to create adamant and rune dragons.

He had also imprisoned Strisath, Sithaph, and Sakirth - three dragonkin of the Necrosyrte faction, who succumbed to the curse and embrace its power - into stasis chambers, and presumably performed experiments on them. Although he began to have doubts over the justification of his cause due to the price he had paid - experimenting on both his own kind and their creations for little return, he believed that it would work out in the end, with his hatred of humanity continuing to grow, seeing them as a disease.

Fifth Age

Eventually, he would be freed from the Vault when an adventurer, with Bob (Robert the Strong's incarnation) and Dallas Jones searched the Vault to learn more about dragons, where they found what appeared to be a special dragon in a huge incubation chamber. He told the intruders about the dragon and what it meant, and was somewhat surprised to see that Robert was now a cat. Given an opportunity to destroy humanity, Zorgoth woke Galvek, who killed Dallas in the process. Outside, Jardric attacked Galvek with his crossbow in fear, and Zorgoth shoved the dwarf aside in retaliation before breaking out of the Vault and heading to Ungael to amass a draconic army of brutal, chromatic and metallic dragons, including the adamant and rune dragons he had bred.

The human nations of Gielinor, seeing the threat that Zorgoth and Galvek posed to their territories, banded together to stop his forces. They took heavy casualties; however, in the end, Zorgoth was killed when his own creation unintentionally incinerated him in a final attempt to kill the adventurer. Zorgoth's death subsequently resulted in Strisath, Sithpath and Sakirth breaking free of stasis after the Stone of Jas was taken by Lucien.

Trivia

• When the player first meets Zorgoth, he addresses the player as if they've already met before ("Ah, I see you [Robert] brought your friend with you. I'm surprised to see you here after all this time. Curious...") While initially believed to have implied that he was addressing the player as someone Robert the Strong knew in his past life, it was later confirmed by Mod Ed, who wrote the quest, that Zorgoth was referring to the player themselves, not someone else.
• Despite the fact that Zorgoth cannot be targeted by Monster Examine, he appears to have 1500 Hitpoints, the same as Sol Heredit. This is discovered in Dragon Slayer II when he is hit by Galvek and displays the largest single hitsplat in all of OSRS.
