The ogre bow is a weapon requiring 30 Ranged to wield. Along with the comp ogre bow, it is used to kill chompies. The bow cannot be fletched, and cannot use any ammunition other than ogre arrows.
The bow has the same ranged attack bonus but a much slower attack speed than the comp version; additionally, the comp bow is tradeable. For this reason, the regular ogre bow is rarely used after the quest is complete.
The player can check the number of chompy birds they have killed by selecting the "Check kills" option on the bow. Kills are only tracked after completing Big Chompy Bird Hunting.
The Void Knight equipment set's accuracy bonuses stack with the ogre bow, but the damage bonus does not get applied.[1]
The following formula can be used to calculate the max hit of an Ogre bow:
^Only the player's visible ranged level matters. Boosts given through prayers and Void Knight armour are ignored.
^A stance bonus of 10 is used regardless of attack style used.
^The ranged strength bonus of the player's armour and gear is ignored. Only the ranged strength bonus of the player's ammo is used. In the case of Rune thrownaxes, the weapon's ranged strength is used instead.
^The bonus damage usually provided by wearing a Slayer helmet (i), Salve amulet (i) or Salve amulet (ei) is ignored.
Attempting to light a fire with an ogre bow after completing Barbarian Firemaking training will result in the chatbox message This bow is vast, clumsy and most of a tree. You realise that this type of bow is useless for firelighting..
If a player tries to check kills on their ogre bow before completing Big Chompy Bird Hunting, they will get a message You've scratched up no kills yet! You've got to complete the quest first!.
