A pitfall is a type of trap used in the Hunter skill. The pitfall trapping technique is used to catch spined larupias, horned graahks, sabre-toothed kyatts, sunlight antelope, and moonlight antelope. With the required Hunter level, a knife and logs in the inventory, clicking on a pit will set the trap. With a teasing stick in the inventory or hunter's spears equipped, the player has to tease the creature and then jump over the spiked pit. When the creature passes the trap, it may be caught.
If players have multiple types of logs in their inventory, the lowest tier of logs will be used first. This does not apply to the log basket; players will need to empty their logs into their inventory. Redwood logs and arctic pine logs cannot be used for pitfall traps.
When using hunter's spears, they give a 5% increased chance to successfully tease creatures; this does not use up the spear.
If the prey is successfully caught, the trap will collapse and the creature will fall into the pit, and the player will have the option to "check" the trap. If not successful, the creature will jump over the trap and the player has to lure it again. Since these creatures will not jump the same pit twice in a row, the next attempt should find place at another pit.
These creatures are able to attack the player with melee after teasing them, with a max hit of 5-7 damage depending on the creature (protection prayers do work).

Capturing Multiple Creatures With a Single Trap
It is possible, if acting quickly, to lure one creature into a trap, and tease a second one into the same trap as the first is still walking over it, netting two kills for one trap.
Procedure
- Tease creature A and jump over your pitfall trap
- Quickly tease nearby creature B and jump over your pitfall trap again while creature A is still walking over it
- Dismantle the results of creature A falling
- Dismantle the results of creature B falling
Trivia
- There is a glitch in which you can collapse a trap, but not kill the creature. This is done by jumping the pit at the same time when the creature is walking over the pit; it will not work if the creature is jumping. This will cause the creature to fall in, turn to face your character and then "spawn" outside the trap with the trap looking collapsed. You will not kill the creature and therefore receive no materials or drops. This glitch has yet to be fixed.
