The Fossil Island squirrels are a group of squirrels who help players look after the three hardwood tree patches on Fossil Island. Despite being non-human, players are able to understand them. When asked why, they respond that they are more intelligent than they appear.

Players can pay each squirrel 15 limpwurt roots (can be noted) to watch after their teak trees, and 25 Yanillian hops to watch after their mahogany trees. Similar to their human counterparts that care for regular tree patches, they accept 200 coins to remove a tree that has fully grown.

Using any item other than acorns on them prompts the response "No thanks. I prefer acorns." Players can use acorns on them to initiate special dialogue, but the acorns will be lost. However, using a dark acorn or calcified acorn on them will result in them saying "That Acorn looks nasty, no squirrel in their right mind would eat that!"

The squirrels also sell basic farming tools, which can be accessed by talking to them and asking Can you sell me something?, or by the right-click Trade option.
