Ranul is the god of the moon within the religion of Losanium. Ranul is much less popular than his brother Ralos in Varlamore,[1] but has a small group of dedicated followers. Little is known about Ranul; he is said to have been born from the darkness of the night.[2]

Followers of Ranul believe that after life begins, the only other significant event is death, believing it should be embraced and respected, shaping the lives of themselves and those around them.[3] Ranul has an essential role in guiding those who pass away to the Gates of Mictl, or the afterlife.[4] Thus, those who serve him in the Sect of Ranul have many responsibilities relating to funerary processes.[5]

Ranul is also a god of learning and knowledge.[6] His followers seek to bring light to darkness, exploring and uncovering the mysteries of the world, but to withhold knowledge that would cause harm to others.[7]

Despite this philosophy, the followers of Ranul in the Forthos Dungeon (then known as The Temple to Ranul/Ralos) were corrupted by a dark wizard long ago, now becoming fanatical and twisting Ranul's teachings, attempting to force premature death onto others.[8]

The Twilight Temple was initially a temple dedicated to Ranul built under the reign of Emperor Imafore, intended as a counterpart to the Teomat. However, it was considered blasphemous by the people of Varlamore, and thus was abandoned for many years, until the Twilight Emissaries began using it as their base of operations.[9]

"Losanium encompasses the worship of both Ralos and Ranul, and while they do indeed go hand in hand, it is rare to find individuals equally dedicated to both. Instead, most people focus their worship on one of the two, with Ralos being by far the more popular. Something that isn't too surprising given Ranul's association with death."

I can already feel it, we've been corrupted and my friends are becoming more fanatical and straying further from Ranul, corrupting his teachings and trying to force premature death onto others. I can feel it too, part of me is slipping away slowly... Ranul, please forgive me."

It is said that Imafore wanted somewhere dedicated to Ranul that would rival the Teomat. [...] Anyway, the temple was considered an affront to both the Church of Ralos and the Sect of Ranul. After Imafore died, most people were more than happy to see it abandoned."
