The rapier is a very thin sword, most effective for piercing. It requires an Attack level of 40 to wield. Its stats are the same as the rune scimitar but with the stab and slash attack bonuses swapped. Prior to the addition of the Brine sabre, the rapier and rune scimitar were tied for best-in-slot melee weapon for 40 attack-tier weaponry.
It was used by Gentleman Mallard until his disappearance at sea. The sword was later found by Smith of Mos Le'Harmless, who will sell it to players for 25,600 coins. Cabin Fever must be completed to reach the island, making it an indirect requirement for this weapon.
To be able to understand Smith and purchase the rapier, the player must have a Book o' piracy in their inventory. Talk to Smith and select the cutlasses option in the dialogue box.
The rapier is tied with the rune scimitar in terms of stats, but specialized in the stab attack style, as opposed to the latter which is specialized in the slash attack style. It can therefore be used effectively against monsters that are weak to stab. However, since the brine sabre has better stats than the scimitar and rapier, it is not recommended to use this weapon in scenarios where the stab and slash defence of monsters are similar or identical. The rapier is also a members only item, which means it cannot be used as an alternative to the rune scimitar in free-to-play worlds. Overall, this weapon is easily outperformed by almost every higher tier weapon. It is possible to use this weapon as an alternative to the rune scimitar between the Attack levels of 40 and 50, or even up until level 60, but once higher tier weapons become available, such as the leaf-bladed sword, dragon scimitar and dragon sword, one should consider upgrading as soon as possible, as there are many alternatives that are cheap, and much more powerful. It is also a difficult item to obtain, as it is locked behind the quest Cabin Fever and it isn't tradable. Some players might not even complete the quest before they have unlocked higher tier weapons already, which means that this weapon is a very uncommon choice, and is not often seen as a serious option to consider.
