The ancient key is an item obtained from the Bank Camel after properly dealing with certain items dropped by the four bosses in the Tombs of Amascut.

The key is used to enter the strange tablet and open the strange chest in order to acquire the mask of rebirth.

Upon death, the ancient key will be lost.

Obtaining the key

To obtain the key, players will first need to complete the Into the Tombs miniquest.

Items needed: Camulet, big banana, eldritch ashes, fang, scarab dung, spade, bucket of water

• Speak to the Bank Camel by using a camulet on it and going through the dialogue options until it requests you to "restore what is lost". ( 2•1•3)…

• The following can be done in any order:
  • Use a bucket of water on the scarab dung to get a dawn scarab egg.
    • Bring the dawn scarab egg to the High Priest of Scabaras beneath the Ruins of Ullek.
  • Use the Big banana on Awowogei.
  • Use the eldritch ashes on the High Priest of Sophanem.
  • With a spade and the fang, dig at the island where players acquired the Lily of the Elid during Beneath Cursed Sands.
• Speak to the Bank Camel again for the key. ( 2)…

Use

The ancient key is used to pass through the strange tablet in Osmumten's burial chamber. Beyond the tablet is the strange chest, which contains the mask of rebirth. Since the strange tablet is located in the treasure room at the end of the Tombs of Amascut, the key must be brought through the raid to the end each time it is to be used. No other items are required to open the hidden chest.

The key is not consumed when used on the strange tablet nor does the strange tablet stay unlocked, and as such the ancient key must be brought back through the Tombs of Amascut to reacquire the mask of rebirth if the mask is lost or destroyed.

Trivia

• If the player has asked the bank camel for its name, the key's destroy confirmation text changes to: "You can get another one from Cam the Camel." This does not change examine text.
