The Fragment of Seren was an entity whom Lord Iorwerth tried to summon to Gielinor and is fought as the final boss of the Song of the Elves quest. She was referred to as the Dark Lord by the Iorwerth Clan in order to trick King Lathas into believing they were summoning Zamorak, whom he worshipped in secret.
After the quest, players can fight the Fragment of Seren again through the memoriam device in the Tower of Voices. Unlike during the quest, deaths within the memoriam device fight are considered safe.

History
Creation and Entrapment
The Dark Lord was a being created by Seren, when she poured her negative influences into a proxy infused with death magic to counteract the bond she had unintentionally bound her elves with in order to share some of her immortality with them. The entity immediately attacked Seren, but she defeated it and she realized that the only way to remove the curse would be gradually over time. When the end of the God Wars came, and Seren was asked to leave Gielinor by Guthix, she sealed the fragment away within the Temple of Light and left the knowledge of this fragment and her past mistakes in Prifddinas' Grand Library, so that the elves would at some point learn the truth about this fragment and to figure out whether they wanted to cleanse it or destroy it. From within the temple, the fragment began whispering to people in the Underground Pass, driving them mad and leading many to their deaths.
At some point during the Fourth Age, Lord Iorwerth found out about the fragment after breaking the Seal of the Forgotten within the Grand Library, but misunderstood the message that Seren left behind, believing that the fragment of Seren was the goddess herself in a trapped form and began searching for a way to free it and worked with King Lathas in an attempt to free it from the Temple of Light. Lathas told an adventurer that his brother, King Tyras, was forced to drink from the Chalice of Eternity by the Dark Lord, corrupting him in the process, but this was a lie.
Iorwerth established the Prifddinas Death Guard and had it set up base in West Ardougne under the cover that a plague had infected the city. He then began using the quarantined citizens as slaves to dig into the Temple of Light to free the Dark Lord and use its power to restore Prifddinas without the aid of the other clans, leaving the Iorwerth clan as the sole ruler of the city. The Iorwerth elves were close to gaining access to the Temple of Light as part of summoning the Dark Lord, but the plan was foiled, when an adventurer with help from the rebel elves of Lletya managed to get the temple's security system working again.
Emergence and Defeat
Despite the setback, Lord Iorwerth knew that he would be able to access the temple regardless in the foreseeable future once the safeguards failed again. In preparation for this, he acquired the two orbs which served as the final key to freeing the Dark Lord from her prison. After re-acquiring the orbs that were stolen from him by the adventurer, he learned of a backdoor into the Temple of Light from a dwarven encampment in the Underground Pass and attacked it with his forces. Though many of his warriors, including Essyllt, were slain, Lord Iorwerth managed to enter the temple, found the Dark Lord and freed her from her prison.
The fragment was enraged after thousands of years of imprisonment, noticed the adventurer as a non-elf and dragged them to her realm, mistaking them as one of Seren's servants sent to kill her. Though the Dark Lord had numerous powers at her disposal, she was eventually defeated. Lord Iorwerth claimed that even though she was angry, she was innocent, hurt and confused, reflecting many of his own thoughts as well.
Combat
She has an attack that is guaranteed to hit close to the player's maximum Hitpoints so using Saradomin brews or anglerfish to heal above the current max is recommended.
Protect from Missiles is recommended to reduce her auto-attack damage (which caps out at 12-12) to non-threatening amounts (3-3 damage).
All damage towards her is capped at 24; if players would have dealt over 24 damage to her, it is reduced to 22-24 damage. She is immune to all forms of recoil, including Vengeance.
Due to her low magic defence in comparison to other defensive stats, using Magic damage is recommended for fighting the Fragment. Unlike most monsters, the Fragment's Magic defence roll is calculated using her Defence level rather than her Magic level.[1] Because Saradomin brews will reduce your magic level until a super restore is used, using the Powered staves like the trident of the swamp or trident of the seas is recommended so that you are able to continue attacking even when your magic level is temporarily reduced.
If you try to summon a Thrall during the fight, you will be informed that "You can't resurrect a thrall here."
Mechanics
The Fragment of Seren has 2 standard attacks:
- A ranged attack consisting of two projectiles. The first projectile does 0-12 damage, and the second projectile does either the same damage as the first projectile, or 1 less damage (e.g. 10&10 or 10&9). Using protection prayers reduces the max damage to 3&3.
- If you are standing beside her, she may do a melee attack. She hits 5 times in 5 ticks, dealing up to 10 damage per hit. This attack is avoidable by stepping away from her.
During the encounter she will cycle between multiple special attacks in this order. Each special attack is separated by about 15 seconds (usually enough time for her to do 3 normal attacks). She always announces a special attack by saying some text.
- The first special attack teleports the player next to her. This will then be followed by a melee attack, so walk away quickly to avoid damage.
- The second special attack consists of spawning of multiple copies of her, attacking the correct one (the lighter coloured shadow) will despawn the false ones and cause the Fragment of Seren to reappear.
- The third special attack consists of multiple beams of red crystals, which will surround the Fragment of Seren and heal her until they are destroyed (4-8 per heal per beam). Any attack will destroy them, so using a fast attack speed weapon such as darts or toxic blowpipe will deal with them quickly, but overall they do not heal much damage so slower weapons will work as well. Chinchompas are an effective option as the medium-fuse combat style has a 3 tick attack speed, and an attack range of 9 tiles, which prevents the player from accidently running into Seren's melee range when attacking the beams. The beams despawn before the Fragment initiates the final special attack. Using Blood spells on the beams will heal around 5-6 health per attack, despite them having only 1 health.
- The final special attack is the most dangerous; she will teleport the player close to her and charge up an unblockable attack that's based on the player's hitpoints, dealing all the way up to the player's maximum hitpoints minus 1, regardless of current hp. After clearing her third special, players should eat up close to their max hp, and then once she teleports the player eat to or above their max hp in order to survive this attack.
As the fight progresses the Fragment's special attacks will increase in power.
1st phase (between 1,000 and 666 hitpoints)
- The first special attack deals melee damage 4 ticks after teleporting the player.
- The second special attack creates 1 true and 1 false clone.
- The third special attack summons 2 healing beams.
- The final special attack deals max hitpoints - 5.
2nd phase (between 666 and 333 hitpoints)
- The first special attack deals melee damage 3 ticks after teleporting the player.
- The second special attack creates 1 true and 2 false clones.
- The third special attack summons 3 healing beams.
- The final special attack deals max hitpoints - 3.
3rd phase (between 333 and 1 hitpoints)
- The first special attack does melee damage 2 ticks after teleporting the player.
- The second special attack creates 1 true and 3 false clones.
- The third special attack summons 4 healing beams.
- The final special attack deals max hitpoints - 1.
Recommended Strategy
The equipment should focus on magical accuracy and strength, as defence has little effect on the Fragment's attacks.
Equipment
- Mage robes (i.e. ancestral robes, Ahrim's, mystic robes, void knight equipment, bloodbark armour can be used with blood spells)
- Trident of the swamp (at least 300 charges) or a weapon that can auto cast Ancient Magicks (i.e. ancient staff, master wand etc.) (if using blood spells).
- Toxic blowpipe, magic shortbow, hunter's crossbow or darts (For pillars only, can be omitted.)
- Items with magic bonus (i.e. seers ring, occult necklace, imbued god capes, tormented bracelet, tome of fire, book of the dead, book of darkness etc.)
Inventory
Depending on strategy, a player may wish to bring a weapon switch (i.e. Toxic Blowpipe), an emergency teleport, a rune pouch and/or stacks of runes. The rest of the inventory should be filled with Super restores and Saradomin brews in a ratio of 1:3.
Strategy
- Drink a dose of Saradomin brew and super restore before entering the boss fight.
- Once in the boss fight, activate Protect from Missiles and Mystic Might or Augury (for extra magic attack).
In battle:
- Prioritise dealing damage over your current health, UNTIL the Fragment of Seren summons her healing pillars. Once you have destroyed all the pillars (or they despawn), immediately drink Saradomin brew until your hitpoints are above your hitpoints level.
- The Seren fragment will now launch a projectile at you that deals up to max health minus 1. This projectile cannot be avoided.
- Once the attack is over, drink Saradomin brew until your health is at a reasonable level, then drink 2 doses of your super restore potion. This makes sure your magic level stays high, so your magic attacks have a higher level of success.
Be wary you may need to drink Saradomin brew/super restore potion during other phases of the fight.
Should the player die, their equipment can be reobtained from the Rebel Scout in the Underground Pass for a fee of 80,000 coins, provided they DO NOT die elsewhere.
Ironman Strategies
Blood spells
Ironmen are strongly recommended to have access to either Saradomin brews or anglerfish. If neither of these are available, the fight is considerably more difficult, especially for players with high hitpoints, as the fragment's special will always deal near the player's max hp. Players without these will find it hard to last long enough to kill the boss before running out of supplies. Ironmen without access to these are recommended to use the phoenix necklace strategy (see below). If this is not possible, bring the highest healing food available and to use blood spells such as Blood Blitz or Blood Barrage to save on food.
Inventory (if brews are unavailable):
- Rune pouch (blood spells recommended)
- 1-2 Prayer potions
- 20 Anglerfish (if 93 hp or higher) or tuna potatoes. Take several anglerfish(5-6) regardless to overheal on the final attack.
- 5-6 Karambwans
Note that it is not necessary to use a dart or bow switch for the pillars if using blood spells as despite not dealing damage, it is possible to heal from them (around 5-6 despite them having 1 hp) to save more food. If the pillars are healing the boss too much, a player without a switch should run next to each pillar between attacks, as the shorter travel time of the projectile will cause them to die faster and heal less overall.
Another tactic for ironmen without access to brews/anglerfish is to use Redemption every time she uses her special attack to damage 95% to 98% of the player's Hitpoints. Heal to full before the special attack comes. Use 1 prayer dose per cycle with 70 Prayer.
Phoenix necklaces
Lower-levelled ironmen or those with high hitpoints, without access to brews or Blood Blitz/Barrage are advised to use this method.
Inventory:
- 1-2 multi-heal food to help manage hp levels. (Guthix Rest, Basket of Strawberries, Pies)
- 2-4 prayer potions
- Warped sceptre/trident of the seas or better
- 50+ Throwing Knives or chinchompas (but if you die, you lose the entire stack)
- 15-20 phoenix necklaces
- 20+ nightshade (stackable, but must be grown using belladonna seeds). You should have ~20 from 2 harvests (Alternatively) cave nightshade (unstackable, but can be gathered freely)
Steps
When entering the fight, don't immediately activate Protect from Missiles. Mystic Might is fine.
Instead take damage until around 30-40 hp depending on your defense level. Then activate Protect from Missiles.
Once Seren has cycled through 3 specials, she will:
- Drop some dialogue and teleport you two tiles in front of her
- Now equip the phoenix necklace.
- Seren will Do a jump-squat, followed by a floating / charging pose
- At the apex of the jump, all the crystals are drawn in, she will pause, and cross her arms
- Now right-click "Eat" the nightshade and proc the necklace. (If using Runelite, you can set the left-click option to eat)
It may take a few tries to get a visual or tick-count, but the timing is fairly forgiving. The bracelet will proc which will restore you to 30% health after the attack.
The self-inflicted damage from the nightshade will trigger the phoenix necklace and put you into an invulnerability state for the incoming special attack.
If you are getting overwhelmed, use this calculator. Calculator:Phoenix necklace
You can glance at your HP and as long as your within the window of 20% of your HP +14, then you will be okay
