Mountain trolls are aggressive creatures which can be found patrolling various mountainous areas. They are commonly killed as part of an assigned Slayer task of "trolls".

Trolls regenerate health twice as quickly as other monsters, but are still vulnerable to poison. They usually use crush weapons, which, combined with their relatively high Strength, can hit rather hard. However, they attack slowly and are quite inaccurate, so it's not strictly necessary to use protection prayers for players that have high Defence. A good strategy for conserving supplies is to use Bones to Peaches on the big bones that they drop; this will almost always cover any damage they manage to deal. Bringing a staff of fire (or similar item) and nature runes is recommended in order to alchemise their frequent low-level armour and weapon drops.

On Death Plateau, they can be safespotted from many areas; all of the stone fences and pretty much every other obstacle in the area can be shot over with Ranged or Magic. Stick and Rock count as mountain trolls and can easily be safespotted using the stone fence on the west side of the plateau for additional Slayer XP (beware that these two hit much harder and more often than standard mountain trolls). Alternatively, they can be safespotted around the corners of some rock piles in the Keldagrim entrance area.

Trivia

  • Trolls are usually named after the first thing they eat, but mountain trolls have no names. This either means that they were simply never named, or possibly indicates that the first thing they tried to eat was another troll.
