Spawning
In RuneScape, spawning is the in-game creation of an entity, for instance a player character, non-player character (NPC), or an item. Respawning is the recreation of a player, NPC, monster, resource, or item after its death, destruction, or use. On the other hand, despawning is the instantaneous destruction or removal of a resource, such as fishing spots, or a monster, such as a gangster.
Spawning
Spawning of players in RuneScape occurs when a player first logs in. They respawn in Lumbridge after dying. Logging on is not spawning as you remain in the same place as where you logged out.
Various items in the game also have set spawn points where they appear after being picked up by a player. For example, chaos runes respawn in the Wilderness where moss giants also reside.
NPCs and certain items will respawn on a consistent timer, and some players will wait around spawn points to kill or collect them, a practice known as spawn camping. If multiple players are attempting to spawn camp the same item, then PID will determine which player is able to pick it up.
Respawn point
A respawn point is the place where a player that has been killed, has had their ring of life or ring of returning activated reappears. Players with access to the Arceuus spellbook can teleport to their respawn point by casting the Respawn Teleport spell.
Players in minigames such as the Emir's Arena typically do not respawn in one of the regular spawn points, but in a location specific for the minigame they are playing.
Changing one's spawn location does not change the home teleport location, as this is tied to spellbooks.

---|---|---|---|
Lumbridge | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3219" x="3221" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">

This is the default spawn point. It is 46-49 tiles away and down a ladder from the Culinaromancer's chest, and 36-39 tiles up two stairs to the bank. To switch back to Lumbridge, simply speak to the NPC (Sir Tiffy, Merlin, Krystilia, Ferox, Asteros Arceuus, Gloria, or Crefydd) who previously changed your spawn point. | |
Falador | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3342" x="2970" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[2967,3339],[2967,3345],[2973,3345],[2973,3339]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":0,"plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 2970,3342 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |
Players can choose to respawn in Falador once they have completed the Recruitment Drive quest. To be more precise, the respawn is in the grounds of White Knights' Castle. It is 49-56 tiles away from the bank. To change your respawn point to Falador, talk to Sir Tiffy Cashien in Falador Park. | |
Camelot | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3478" x="2757" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[2754,3475],[2754,3481],[2760,3481],[2760,3475]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":0,"plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 2757,3478 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |
Players can talk to Merlin inside Camelot Castle to set their respawn at the gate right outside after they have done the King's Ransom quest and completed the Knight Waves Training Grounds miniquest. It is about 39 tiles away from a bank in a non-PvP world, and about 5 tiles away in a PvP world. | |
Edgeville | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3469" x="3094" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[3091,3466],[3091,3472],[3097,3472],[3097,3466]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":0,"plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 3094,3469 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |
Krystilia in the north Edgeville jail cell can change the player's respawn to Edgeville. It is 19-25 tiles away from a bank, in the ruins to the south. There is a one-time fee of 5,000,000 coins to unlock this respawn point. Talk to her and choose the "What can you do apart from Slayer Master stuff?" dialogue option. If your respawn point is later changed from Edgeville, you can talk to Krystilia again to change it back at no additional fee. | |
Ardougne | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3306" x="2662" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[2659,3303],[2659,3309],[2665,3309],[2665,3303]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":0,"plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 2662,3306 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |
Upon completion of the medium Ardougne diary, the player can change the Ring of life and Defence cape teleport to Ardougne by right clicking on either item. This will teleport the player to the Ardougne marketplace if their Hitpoints is depleted to 10% or less. However, if the player dies normally, they will be sent to their normal respawn point. | |
Prifddinas | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="6066" x="3263" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="29">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[3260,6063],[3260,6069],[3266,6069],[3266,6063]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":"29","plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 3263,6066 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |
Players can choose to respawn in Prifddinas once they have completed the Song of the Elves quest. Crefydd, the NPC who offers the change, is located upstairs by the altar in the Tower of Voices. The choice is free, and it offers a relatively close respawn point to a Spirit Tree and the northern bank which is 33-37 tiles away. Notably, it is also very close to a Player-owned house portal, providing quick access to any teleportation methods the player has built. | |
Ferox Enclave | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3635" x="3151" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[3148,3632],[3148,3638],[3154,3638],[3154,3632]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":0,"plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 3151,3635 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |
Players can talk to Ferox to change respawn points to Ferox Enclave for a one-time fee of 5,000,000 coins. The distance to bank varies from 15-22 tiles for the banker, and 21-25 tiles for the bank chest. Ferox Enclave is located in level 13-15 wilderness right next to an obelisk and just south of the Carrallanger teleport spot. Despite being surrounded by wilderness, the enclave itself is a safe zone. The exact spawn point is located on the north-east side of the enclave by the eastern barrier. | |
Kourend Castle | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3673" x="1640" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">

The closest bank being on the 2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US], at an approximate distance of 30 tiles total from the physical respawn point with 2 sets of stairs in-between. | |
Civitas illa Fortis | <mapframe align="center" frameless="" plane="0" width="300" y="3133" x="1681" height="300" zoom="2" mapID="0">
{"features":[{"type":"Feature","geometry":{"coordinates":[[[1679,3136],[1684,3136],[1684,3131],[1679,3131],[1679,3136]]],"type":"Polygon"},"properties":{"mapID":0,"plane":0,"description":" X/Y: 1679,3136 "}}],"type":"FeatureCollection"}</mapframe> |

Spawn rates of almost everything in Old School will now be consistent throughout all worlds. Prior to this update the time that resources and monsters would take to respawn would be based on how many people were online on that world. The more players that were online, the faster the resources or monsters would respawn. |
