Salt deposits are found in the centre of the Ghorrock Prison asylum, which are mined to obtain salax salt, one of three ingredients in brewing arder-musca poisons that are used to weaken and fight Duke Sucellus. Level 72 Mining is indirectly required to mine them, due to the quest requirement for Making Friends with My Arm, though no level is required by the deposits themselves.

Since the deposit never depletes, it is a semi-automatic method of gaining very small amounts of Mining experience, yielding up to 10,000 Mining experience per hour when using a rune pickaxe, and up to 10,600 Mining experience per hour with a dragon pickaxe. As the salt stacks in the inventory, it is possible to keep mining continuously for five minutes without any inputs from the player, after which the player will receive the message Your arms get tired from all the mining. and thus stop mining.

It is not possible to obtain a rock golem by mining salt deposits.
