The crystal harpoon is an untradeable harpoon created via crystal singing after finishing Song of the Elves. It requires 71 Fishing, 70 Attack, and 50 Agility to wield and degrades during use like other crystal equipment. It can be stored in a tackle box.

While fishing, the charged harpoon provides a 35% increased catch rate over the regular harpoon (a 12.5% increase compared the dragon harpoon), the highest for all harpoons. Whilst fighting Tempoross, an additional effect transforms 1/3 of caught fish into Crystallised harpoonfish, which grant 20% more fishing experience when used as ammunition.

Players can create a crystal harpoon via a singing bowl by combining a dragon harpoon, 120 crystal shards and a crystal tool seed. Singing the crystal requires 76 Smithing and 76 Crafting, which can be boosted, and grants 6,000 experience in both skills. Players may bypass the skill requirements by having Conwenna or Reese sing the crystal for an additional 60 crystal shards, bringing the total to 180.

The harpoon is created with 10,000 charges and a charge is consumed for every fish caught. Crystal shards can be used to recharge the harpoon, each providing 100 charges up to a maximum of 20,000.

A dangerous death in PvP causes the crystal harpoon to revert to a dragon harpoon, which will then be dropped for the killer. All crystal shards will be lost should this happen.

Special attack

A player performs the crystal harpoon's special attack, Fishstabber.

The crystal harpoon has the same special attack as a dragon harpoon, Fishstabber, that provides a visible +3 boost to Fishing, consuming 100% special attack energy. It cannot be used without the level 70 Attack and 50 Agility requirement to wield the harpoon.

Also note that any levels boosted above 99 with the special attack will be treated as 99. Therefore, you will start to receive diminishing returns with the special attack at level 97 and 98, with there being no value in activating the special attack at level 99.

Charging and degradation

When created the crystal harpoon starts with 10,000 charges. Like all crystal equipment one charge is consumed for each successful use of the tool, in this case when a fish is caught. Once the harpoon's charges have been fully depleted, it can still be used for fishing and acts like a normal dragon harpoon.

Wearing an elven signet while using crystal equipment will provide a 10% chance to not consume charges.

Crystal shards can be used on the harpoon at any time to add 100 charges per shard, up to a maximum of 20,000.

Disassembly

The right-click option, Dismantle, can be used at any time, returning the dragon harpoon and crystal tool seed used to make it. However, all crystal shards used to craft or charge the tool will be lost in the process.
