A raw rainbow fish can be caught by players with 38 Fishing. They are caught with a fly fishing rod at a river fishing spot (such as the one near Barbarian Village or in Shilo Village), using stripy feathers (obtained via the Hunter skill) as bait. Each one caught grants 80 Fishing experience.

Raw rainbow fish can be used in the Hunter skill as optional bait for barb-tailed kebbits in the Feldip Hunter area. Catching a barb-tailed kebbit requires level 33 Hunter and yields 168 Hunter experience.

Players can also cook it on a range or a fire to make a cooked rainbow fish, which heals 11 Hitpoints when eaten. Doing so requires 35 Cooking and grants 110 Cooking experience. With 63 Cooking or higher it is impossible to burn the fish.

Although they reward more Fishing experience when caught than salmon or trout, they are much slower to catch and as such are not recommended to be caught purely for experience.
