The Scar essence mine is an area within the Scar where amalgamations can be found. During and after Desert Treasure II, the mine can be reached by entering the Scar via the Catalytic Guardian in the Temple of the Eye, then heading east and jumping past the two stepping stones, and then jumping past a third stepping stone to the south-east and entering the passage.

Players with level 64 Mining can mine amalgamations for tainted essence chunks, which are taken to and processed by the Ventriculus, an abyssal extractor, to receive various types of extracts that give extra runes of a certain type for each normal essence used.

The mine primarily caters to high-levelled ironmen players, as no profit is made from high-level extracts. The extracts created by the Ventriculus allow players to craft runes in even greater amounts, making it very ideal for said ironmen to accumulate large stacks of commonly used runes such as chaos, death, blood, and soul runes.

In order to unlock the third stepping stone, players must have completed Desert Treasure II up to the point where players visit the Scar and disturb all three passages.

Using the Ventriculus

Players can deposit tainted essence chunks into Ventriculus openings, with each chunk providing five tainted essence, which can then be processed in two ways: the first is to clean it via the essence orifice, converting two tainted essence into one noted pure essence. Acquiring pure essence in this manner can yield up to 10,000 essence per hour if fully focused, and has no cost associated with it.

However, the second way - acquiring runic extracts from the extract orifice - requires having deposited a certain amount of coins into Hagus' coffer, depending on the type of extract they wish to acquire. Each extract requires one tainted essence stored in the Ventriculus.
