Agrith-Naar is a level 100 Greater demon who is the main antagonist of the Shadow of the Storm quest. He is summoned and then destroyed using Silverlight, which results in the blade transforming into Darklight as a result of absorbing his blood.

He is extremely powerful, being able to directly manipulate the weather on Gielinor, and is thought to be capable of causing great havoc.[1] According to Juna, Agrith-Naar was banished by Guthix when he ended the God Wars.[2] However, as described in the demonic tome, Ellemar and seven companions resummoned and imprisoned the demon in the guise of the human Denath in order to contain his magics. Whilst this was successful, Denath tricks a group of aspiring dark wizards into releasing him during Shadow of the Storm, killing several of them and whipping up sand storms around Uzer before being recalled and slain.

He reappears as Agrith-Na-Na during the final battle of the Recipe for Disaster quest.

He can be fought in the Nightmare Zone after the quest is complete. Although he is a Greater demon, killing Agrith-Naar will not grant any Slayer experience in the Nightmare Zone; nor will killing him count towards any Greater Demon Slayer Task.

Strategy

Agrith-Naar uses melee up close and fire blast at a distance. He is able to detect protection prayers and will avoid using attacks the player is praying against. He is also capable of teleporting the player within melee distance of him should the player attempt to run or attack from a distance.

He can only be defeated with the use of Silverlight, but it should be noted that normal weapons and spells can still be used to deplete his health bar. The player must remain in melee distance when finishing him off using Silverlight. On a side note, dependent on one's melee stats, using Silverlight for the entire fight is still a good choice due to its passive damage boost against demonic creatures.

Normally, one would assume the last hit must be dealt using Silverlight; however, to slay the demon, the player is only required to be in melee distance and wield Silverlight before the demon loses its last hitpoints. The easiest way to accomplish this is to switch to manual, spell casting at melee range, while wielding Silverlight.

If the requirements to finish him off are met, poison damage will also kill Agrith-Naar as if the last hit had been made using Silverlight, making it easier for low combat level accounts and pures to defeat Agrith-Naar.

Nightmare zone (hard)

Agrith Naar, especially on hard mode, is able to deal a lot of damage, which is hard to avoid with prayers, due to having two attack styles, which the demon can variate with in a few ticks. There are basically two ways of dealing with him, ranged or melee.

  • Ranged tactics involve attacking him with spells or ranged weapons. The latter option is preferrred, as his magic statistic is significantly increased in hard mode, which increases the odds of missings spells. His defence does not get increased, thus ranged attacks should be more consistent in dealing damage. His grab spells placing the player in melee distance can be countered by clicking tiles away from the current position. You will still be teleported closer to him, but out of melee reach and harm with Protection from Magic.
  • Melee tactics involve the prayer protection from magic and then attacking the demon with a halberd for longer melee reach (thus staying out melee attacks) or hit-and-run tactics any other melee weapon. The player should tank a magic hit, before attacking and then move out of melee reach. It can avoid some hits. Agrith Naar should be easy to hit with melee.

Agrith Naar can be killed by any means in the zone, Silverlight or Darklight are not required.

While he is in his own dimension his evil magics can reach everywhere in the world. No one knows how far his power extends, but Reen and I believe that much of the suffering in the world is due to him. The accident that cripples a man, the storm that sweeps a ship under the sea, the sudden fire in the blood that makes a wolf pack attack a town - all that is Agrith Naar!"
