A forester's campfire is a fire that can be created by using logs on an already-existing fire. Logs can be continuously added to a forester's campfire via a similar interface to the cooking skill, granting one-third the Firemaking experience as burning that log normally. Pyre logs and coloured logs do not work, though the latter can be used as a regular fire that can have logs added to it. The duration of the forester's campfire is dependent only on the type log that is added to an existing fire, not the log that started the fire.

Campfires must have at least 5 tiles between them; attempting to create one within this range gives the message There's a Forester's Campfire nearby, help tend to that one or move further away.

Players can use the "Rest" option to sit at the campfire, however this is a strictly visual effect, and does not provide any benefits to the player.

Mechanics

Burn length

A player tending to a forester's campfire.

Like regular fires, forester's campfires deplete over time, but will burn at a maximum of 300 ticks (~180 seconds) if players actively add logs to them. Higher level logs add an increased duration of burn time for the fire.

Players can use the "Check" option to get a rough estimate on how long the fire will last before being depleted:

Tier Message Time remaining
1 The embers glow softly. 0.6s-34.8s
2 The flames flicker gently. 35.4s-70.8s
3 The fire burns steadily. 71.4s-106.8s
4 The fire burns brightly. 107.4s-142.8s
5 The roaring fire crackles invitingly. 143.4s-179.4s

Experience

Players gain 1/3 of the default Firemaking experience whilst burning logs on a forester's campfire. Assuming players don't need to move to bank, they can reasonably expect to burn 1,400 logs per hour with minimal effort. In addition, players can also tend-to the campfire by adding more logs as each log will extend the duration of the current campfire for a maximum of 300 ticks.

Permanent fire conversions

Some permanent fires, such as the ones near the moss giants west of the Fishing Guild, can be transformed into a forester's campfire. The campfire will revert to a normal fire if logs stop being added to it, dropping ashes when it is depleted. The following table displays locations of some permanent fires that have been confirmed to either convert or not convert to Campfires:

Convertible fire locations Non-convertible fire locations

Campfires can still be made in the areas where permanent fires can't be converted.

(update)

A bug in which players can create a forester's campfire without consuming a log, by cancelling the lighting mid-animation, has been fixed.

Trivia

  • The Forester's Campfire is based on the bonfire from RuneScape 3.
  • The "rest" animation is based on the resting feature, released in 2009.
  • Players are able to cook food on a Forester's Campfire from a diagonally adjacent tile, unlike normal fires or ranges.
