Prospector kit

The prospector kit is an experience-boosting set, purchasable from Prospector Percy's Nugget Shop in the Motherlode Mine or Petrified Pete's Ore Shop near the Volcanic Mine. Pieces of the kit are purchased using golden nuggets obtained randomly through mining pay-dirt. The set costs 180 nuggets in total, which requires mining 5,760 pay-dirt on average. The set can also be obtained from the Volcanic Mine, requiring 120,000 volcanic mine reward points in total.

The full set, when worn, grants 2.5% bonus Mining experience. If a player has completed the elite Varrock Diary, they may use Varrock armour 4 in place of the jacket. Pieces of the golden prospector kit will act as normal pieces for the purpose of obtaining the set bonus.

Wearing pieces of the kit in the Desert will reduce the need for waterskins, similar to the desert robes.

Wearing the prospector helmet while entering the Mining Guild is one of the tasks in the hard Falador Diary. The golden prospector helmet will also complete the task.

Despite having two lights attached to it, the prospector helmet does not act as a light source.

This set can be stored in the armour case space of a costume room in a player-owned house. Ultimate Ironmen will be unable to retrieve individual pieces until the full set is stored.

Star fragments (which can be bought for 3,000 stardust each) may be used as a means of recolouring each piece of the prospector kit. Four of these are needed to recolour the entire set to make the golden prospector kit, which will cost a total of 12,000 stardust. This change in appearance cannot be undone.

When obtaining the set, it is slightly more efficient to start by purchasing the more expensive items first. This can be calculated by adding up the experience boosts one would get when buying the items in either order.

[1] This relates to the relative XP boost to the cost of the piece. Prospector armour doesn't increase golden nugget chance.

• Wearing the full prospector kit whilst mining a piece of runite ore is required to complete a master clue scroll skill challenge assigned by Sherlock. Varrock armour 4 can take the place of the prospector jacket for the purposes of this clue.
