Item ID27657
A player attacks an opponent with the Viggora's chainmace.

The ursine chainmace is an upgraded variant of Viggora's chainmace, requiring level 70 in Attack to wield. It is created by combining Viggora's chainmace with the claws of Callisto. This process requires level 85 Smithing; players without the required level to combine the items may ask Andros Mai in Ferox Enclave to do so instead, for a fee of 500,000 coins. This item counts as a Zamorakian item in the God Wars Dungeon.

The chainmace is identical in function to Viggora's chainmace, but with increased stats and a special attack.

Passive effect

When an ursine chainmace is charged with revenant ether, an additional 50% melee accuracy and damage boost is applied when attacking any NPC in the Wilderness, consuming 1 ether per attack whether the player hits or not. Attacking with the mace outside of the Wilderness will still consume charges.

This effect will stack with a Slayer helmet or a Salve amulet and their variants, but not both simultaneously. This makes it the best melee weapon in the Wilderness for PvM, surpassing the maximum hit of an elder maul, while having the same attack speed as an abyssal whip.

Special attack

A player performing the ursine chainmace's special attack, Bear Down.

The ursine chainmace has a special attack, Bear Down, which consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy. The special attack hits an enemy with doubled accuracy, and upon a hit other than zero, also deals 20 damage over 6 seconds, prevents running for 3.6 seconds (6 ticks) and reduces the target's Agility level by 20. The special attack cannot be used while uncharged.

The accuracy roll for Bear Down is based on the offensive bonuses of one's currently select style, which is rolled against an opponent's slash defences.[1]

Charging and death

In order to use the chainmace's passive effect, it must first be activated with 1,000 revenant ether (costing 178,000 coins). The 1,000 ether used to activate the chainmace does not count towards the usage of the passive effect, thus additional ether must be added (up to 16,000) in order to increase the chainmace's damage output. The hourly cost of constantly using this weapon is 1,500 ether or 267,000 coins.

The ether can be safely removed by selecting the right-click Uncharge option on the chainmace, after which the chainmace becomes tradeable again.

Upon death within the Wilderness, any revenant ether stored within the chainmace will always be dropped, even if it is one of the player's protected items. Because of this, despite the chainmace being able to store a maximum of 17,000 revenant ether, it is recommended to store the minimum amount required for a trip into the Wilderness (in addition to the 1,000 ether required to activate the weapon).
