A skill pure, often referred to as a level-3 skiller or simply a skiller, is a type of pure dedicated to only developing non-combat skills and leaving their combat level at 3. Skill pures keep their combat stats at level 1 (Hitpoints at level 10) and train all non-combat skills, including the Slayer skill. The “maxed” skill pure build results in a total level of 1600 and was included on the hiscores on 15 February 2023.
These restrictions make traversing Gielinor or progressing the account more challenging. Certain regions have high-damage-dealing monsters, requiring caution, while others are simply inaccessible due to quests involving combat. Ironman mode brings additional challenges due to reduced transportation options and resource/gear limitations.
This overview introduces the skill pure build and includes guidance on starting a new skill pure account. The page is divided into sections outlining account restrictions, transportation options, quest strategies, and much more! Reading the page in its entirety before starting a skill pure is highly recommended to understand how to avoid combat experience and adequately plan the account.
Quests
The following quests can be completed by Skill pures as they do not reward the player with any experience points in skills that would raise the character's combat level. Some quests require food and rings of recoil.
Finishing all of these quests would require the skill levels in the box to the right.
Total level: 338

Partially Complete-able quests
The following quests may not be finished due to a combat skill requirement or reward, but may be partially complete-able for some sort of reward.
Notes (quests)
- ^ Quest completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. Using a Pickaxe and having 10 Mining will allow you to kill the Ancient Guardian without combat.
- ^ F2P quest completion is not possible; however, P2P and Ironman quest completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. Rings of recoil can be used to kill Ithoi the Navigator. He has a very fast Hitpoints regeneration requiring 3-4 rings of recoil. An alternative, Ironman friendly, method to completing the quest is to flinch Ithoi with a karambwan paste or weapon poison(++) poisoned weapon. Ithoi provides reduced experience granting you 0 combat experience when successfully hitting 1s. Due to his very fast hitpoints regeneration he must be poisoned twice.
- ^ Quest completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. When fighting Delrith, you only need to attack the demon once with the silverlight to gain his aggression [It is recommended to equip a berserker necklace and lower your Attack and Strength to 0 which will reduce the chance of getting combat experience when gaining aggression as dealing damage is not required]. Dynamite(p) can be used to gain his aggression without risking combat experience. Rings of recoil can then be used to kill the demon. The final hit does NOT have to be dealt by the Silverlight.
- ^ In Shield of Arrav, it is recommended that you join the Black Arm Gang, because though a level 30 weaponsmaster must be killed to retrieve the Phoenix crossbows, you may enlist the help of another player to kill him for you.
- ^ In Lost City, you must kill a Dramen Tree Spirit. It is encouraged to bring a friend or to use rings of recoil until the spirit is nearly dead, and then deal a point of damage (Ranged is recommended, as you can attack it from cover), followed by recoiling it to death.
- ^ In Hazeel Cult, you must choose Hazeel's side to prevent combat.
- ^ It is not necessary to deal any damage apart from using rings of recoil to kill the mourner.
- ^ If the player started the Observatory Quest before the 8 November 2018 update, the constellation may give combat experience. If this happens, simply refrain from talking to the professor. If the quest was started after the 2018 update, the quest will not give a constellation that awards experience in a skill at level 1.
- ^ Killing the Mercenary Captain requires a ring of recoil. 1 point of damage does not need be dealt to receive his key drop.
- ^ It is possible to kill the earth elemental with dynamite(p) and rings of recoil. Note that the earth elemental is immune to poison damage, but can be damaged by a dynamite(p) explosion.
- ^ The quest itself awards no experience, but talking to the three brothers afterwards will give 5,000 Cooking, 5,000 Fishing, and 2,500 Attack and Strength experience. Do not talk to Tamayu if you wish to avoid the Attack and Strength rewards.
- ^ One Small Favour is possible with the help of high level friends. It is recommended to use Vengeance Other to assist with killing Slagilith. When fighting the dwarves, it is possible to de-aggro them by leaving the room, then using dynamite(p) and rings of recoil to kill them individually. You can leave between kills to re-supply, and it is recommended to mark which dwarves have been defeated using RuneLite to avoid unnecessarily killing extra dwarves.
- ^ It is not necessary to deal any damage apart from using rings of recoil to kill the Tough Guy and Bandit Champion.
- ^ The Apparition and the Possessed Priest can be killed using Dynamite (p) and Rings of recoil. The Apparition can be trapped on the edge of the table so the player can attempt to light Dynamite (p) underneath it. Note that the Apparition can deal a max hit of 9, so it is highly advised to bring overhealing food for the beginning of the fight. Once the Apparition is poisoned, use a Ring of recoil to deal more damage to ensure you get the kill credit. The Possessed Priest deals a max hit of 6 and is very inaccurate. You can poison him with dynamite then use a ring of recoil to deal additional damage.
- ^ Though the quest itself is able to be completed without increasing combat experience, the after-quest minigame, Tears of Guthix, is not advised as it rewards experience in your lowest skill.
- ^ Skill pure accounts can only complete the first three parts of the RFD quest chain: Pirate Pete, Dwarf and Wartface & Bentnoze. Poison Dynamite can be used to kill mudskippers to gain 0 combat XP.
- ^ In Cold War, exiting the cage with icelords gives 40 Attack experience. This is not required for unlocking the Penguin Agility Course.
- ^ You will need rings of recoil to kill the sand snake.
- ^ To kill the sourhog with rings of recoil, 1 damage must be dealt by the player for kill credit.
- ^ Quest completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. Cuthbert, Lord of Dread can be defeated using a ring of recoil.
- ^ The first fight requires no combat, allow the suspect to win and your character will stop the fight, allowing you to progress. The second fight rewards 0xp during "combat".
Achievement diaries
These following easy Achievement Diaries can be completed by a skill pure whilst keeping combat level 3. Please note that the 0 combat experience methods typically require alt accounts especially when using spawn manipulation. Methods are outlined for individuals without alt accounts; however, they may require more combat experience to be gained.
Notes (diaries)
- ^ Ardougne Diary (Easy) completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. The "Enter the Combat Training Camp north of West Ardougne" task requires the completion of Biohazard. Biohazard requires you to kill a mourner to receive a key. Rings of recoil can be used to kill the mourner and no "true" damage is required. An alternative, Ironman friendly, method to kill the mourner requires dialogue manipulation and 1 alt account. Note: Your alt account cannot have Biohazard complete.
- ^ Desert Diary (Easy) completion REQUIRES combat experience. The "Kill a vulture" task can be completed using a Dwarf Multicannon and spawn manipulation granting 0 Ranged experience (the use of 1 alt account is required; however, multiple are recommended). An alternative method is simply hit the vulture for 1 "true" damage (gaining minimal combat experience) and recoiling. Note: The vulture is immune to both poison and venom. Also, the "Open the sarcophagus in the first room of Pyramid Plunder" task grants 20 Strength experience.
- ^ Falador Diary (Easy) completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. The "Kill a duck in Falador Park" task can be completed using a Dwarf Multicannon and spawn manipulation granting 0 Ranged experience. This method requires 1 alt account and killing the western most Duck in the pond is preferred for this method. An alternative method is simply using a Ranged weapon or halberd to kill the duck granting combat experience.
- ^ Kandarin Diary (Easy) completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. The "Defeat one of each elemental in the Elemental Workshop" task can be completed using dynamite(p) and rings of recoil. Since the elementals are not aggressive, the player can continuously try to deal damage using the dynamite(p), then recoiling them as normal. Note that earth elementals can not be poisoned, and the earth elementals that you "wake up" with a pickaxe do not count towards the task (attack an elemental walking in the western area). You can leave to resupply between each attempt. An alternative method is simply hit each elemental for 1 "true" damage (gaining minimal combat experience) and recoiling/poisoning.
- ^ Karamja Diary (Easy) completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. The "Kill a jogre in the Pothole Dungeon" task can be completed using dynamite(p) and rings of recoil. It is recommended to have a friend use Vengeance Other to assist with damaging the jogre. A safespot can be found in the small cave room immediately east of the entrance, using the mushrooms on the ground to block the jogre's path. An alternative, Ironman friendly, method to kill the jogre includes spawn manipulation using a Dwarf Multicannon and then using an alt account to apply poison through the use of emerald bolts (e). Emerald bolts (e) have of the ability of the Magical Poison effect triggering on a successful 0 hit. Ironman are recommended to keep the jogre bones for Tai Bwo Wannai Trio. A third alternative method is simply hit the jogre for 1 "true" damage (gaining minimal combat experience) and recoiling/poisoning.
- ^ Lumbridge & Draynor Diary (Easy) completion is possible without gaining any combat experience. The "Slay a cave bug in the Lumbridge Swamp Caves" task can be completed using a Dwarf Multicannon and spawn manipulation granting 0 Ranged experience (the use of 1 alt account is required; however, multiple are recommended). Cave bugs have a very fast Hitpoints regeneration and will need to be killed in a single shot. Rings of recoil and poison are not recommended. The "Kill a zombie in the Draynor Sewers" task can also be completed using a Dwarf Multicannon and spawn manipulation. You can then use rings of recoil for the zombie's remaining Hitpoints. An alternative, Ironman friendly, method to kill the zombie includes spawn manipulation using a Dwarf Multicannon and then using an alt account to apply poison through the use of emerald bolts (e). Emerald bolts (e) have of the ability of the Magical Poison effect triggering on a successful 0 hit. Note: When using a Dwarf Multicannon it is recommended to kill a zombie in the southern most room. A third alternative method is simply hit the zombie for 1 (gaining minimal combat experience) and recoiling/poisoning.
- ^ The "Kill a sand crab" task can be completed using dynamite(p) and rings of recoil, although it is only possible to complete the kill if poison damage is successfully applied. Sand crabs have 60 Hitpoints and despawn very quickly (after 2-3 minutes) making them rather hard to kill with just rings of recoil. An alternative method is to use an alt account with a toxic blowpipe and serpentine helm (Ranged level reduced to 0-2 with Saradomin Brews) to hit a 1 inflicting venom. The sand crab will then need to regenerate it's Hitpoints to full before the venom damage registers (resetting kill credit). Once the sand crabs Hitpoints are full, do 1 "true" damage with the skill pure (gaining minimal combat experience) while the venom finishes the kill. Note: If the venom registers before the sand crab regenerates it's Hitpoints to full just start the process over. An alternative method is to use a poisoned weapon to hit the sand crab for 1 (gaining minimal combat experience) and recoiling. Note: This method requires the poison to take effect.
Minigames
There are also certain activities a skill pure can do. Activities listed below are possible to play whilst keeping Combat at level 3.
Notes (activities)
Ironman skillers can also participate in the TzHaar Fight Pit.
Skiller pures must avoid looting the Sarcophagus in Pyramid Plunder, otherwise they will gain Strength experience.
Strategies
Certain non-combat skills help skill pures in Combat, specifically defending. These skills are extremely helpful and recommended to be trained.

Using Poison Dynamite
Using poison dynamite is useful to complete many quests and achievement diary tasks. It is possible for skill pures to get the nightshade required for poison dynamite from belladonna plants (requiring 63 Farming) or from the Skavid caves after partial completion of the Watchtower quest.
Dynamite accuracy is based on the player's stab attack, slash attack, crush attack, or ranged attack bonus, and the maximum damage that poison dynamite can deal is based on the player's Firemaking level (maximum of 4 damage at 90 Firemaking). See the recommended setups below for maximizing Dynamite(p) accuracy.
Teleportation Options
Without access to Magic, a skiller's options for easily moving around can be limited early on in the account's progression. As certain unlocks are achieved through Achievement Diaries, Construction, and achieving Skill capes, getting around becomes much easier.
- Magic tablets can be used to reach major cities and other landmarks.
- Enchanted jewelry can be used to access many locations:
