The heavy ballista is a two-handed ranged weapon that uses javelins as ammunition, requiring level 75 in Ranged and the completion of the quest Monkey Madness II to wield. Players must also accept both Duke and Daero's training in order to make use of it, unlike the light ballista. While there is no direct Defence requirement for the heavy ballista, completing the required training from Daero after Monkey Madness I will provide a minimum of 20,000 Defence experience. This corresponds to an effective level requirement of 33 Defence.

It is created by using ballista limbs on a heavy frame, then using the resulting incomplete heavy ballista on a ballista spring, and finally adding the monkey tail on an unstrung heavy ballista. The entire process requires 72 Fletching and grants 660 experience.

The speed on accurate is one tick slower than a godsword (7 ticks), but when put on rapid it matches the speed of a godsword (6 ticks). The ballista has an attack range of 9. Longrange increases attack range by 1.

Players may combine a heavy ballista with a heavy ballista ornament kit to create a heavy ballista (or).

Ava's device picks up fired javelins.

  • Offers the sixth highest one-handed Ranged attack bonus in the game.
  • Has an attack speed equal to that of longbows and an attack range equal to that of shortbows.
  • Because of the slower attack speed and the potential for overkill from its higher max hit, it deals less damage over extended periods than the magic shortbow, and should be used primarily when additional defence is needed through the use of a shield, or if enchanted bolt effects are needed.

[[{{#explode:31 October 2016| |0}} {{#explode:31 October 2016| |1}}]] [[{{#explode:31 October 2016| |2}}]]

The ranged attack bonus was changed from 120 to 100 and ranged strength of javelins reduced as it was deemed too powerful with Void Knight equipment. The delay between the projectile hitting the player and the damage hitsplat appearing has been removed. Previously, there was a delay that allowed a ballista hit and other weapon special attacks to stack in quick succession.

Trivia

  • The special attack tooltip stating that it has a 2.4 second delay to attack is false; there is no extra delay associated with the special attack.
