Kourend's Blood Altar is a runic altar found south of the Dark Altar. It is used to craft blood runes from dark essence fragments, which requires level 77 Runecraft. Crafting blood runes at this altar provides 23.8 Runecraft experience per dark essence fragment imbued; blood essence can be used to increase the number of blood runes they receive by approximately 50% without gaining additional experience.

The Blood Altar in Great Kourend is not the true Blood Altar. Rather, it, alongside the Soul Altar, were created by the power from the Dark Altar nearby, where it drew energy from the plane where the true Blood Altar is located.[1][2] By visiting it in person, this connection can be seen in the form of a giant blood crystal, where it discharges energy upwards. Kourend's Blood Altar is known as the fake or false Blood Altar for this reason.

Access

Unlike most altars, Kourend's Blood Altar does not need to be entered. As such, neither a blood talisman nor tiara is needed.

In order to access the altar via the Abyss, the player must use a dark essence block or dark essence fragments on the blood rift after having crafted some blood runes at Kourend's Blood Altar. This does not consume the dark essence block, and only has to be done once. When players have done so, the chatbox will state: The power of the Dark Altar redirects the rift to the place in Arceuus where the energy of the true Blood Altar is focused.

Experience

Without an activated blood essence, the maximum number of blood runes that may be crafted in one visit is 212. This would be achieved by mining 27 dense essence blocks and then turned into dark essence blocks and crushed with a chisel into dark essence fragments. Then, another inventory of 26 dense essence blocks are mined and turned into dark essence fragments before going to the Blood Altar.

With an activated blood essence this number increases to around ~300.

This limit can be increased to 232 with the completion of the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary, which awards an extra 10% of blood runes per bind. However, no additional experience is gained.

Note that you can only have a maximum of 108 dark essence fragments and must use them before crushing the remaining dark essence blocks. One dark essence block is broken into 4 dark essence fragments.

The maximum possible experience is 5,045.6 obtained while doing the above, but each subsequent inventory will be 4,855.2 experience due to the blood runes taking up an additional inventory space.
