The Escape Caves are an underground multicombat area found in between level 30-42 Wilderness that are connected to Callisto's Den, the Silk Chasm, and Vet'ion's Rest. Entering the boss lairs or the entrances to the Escape Caves requires players to pay a fee of 50,000 coins; this fee does not need to be brought along in the inventory, and can be deducted from the bank. This fee is shared across Callisto's Den, Hunter's End, the Skeletal Tomb, Vet'ion's Rest, the Silk Chasm, the Web Chasm and the Escape Caves. The fee does not need to be paid again, unless the player dies to another player without having left the Wilderness since their most recent visit to a boss lair or the Escape Caves. If this happens, the fee is dropped as loot for the killer, and needs to be paid again to re-enter the boss lairs. Players can decrease the fee by killing the six bosses; each kill in which the player deals the most damage to it reduces the fee by 10,000 coins.

When entering the Escape Caves from its four entrances, the player will suffer a unique debuff that gradually drains their Prayer points over time to discourage player killers from entering the caves the non-intended way and camping inside them. This debuff is not present if the player enters the caves via boss lairs.

The caves can be accessed from the surface, or via the cave exits within each boss lair. Exiting via the boss lair by any means (including logging out or switching worlds) will result in the player arriving at one of the three boss lair exits at random. In addition, any player who exits via the same boss lair within 10 seconds of the previous player will arrive at the same cave exit, meaning player killers can pursue their targets through the boss lair.

The caves are also occupied by special versions of grizzly bears and poison spiders, who are stronger than their other counterparts; the spiders in the cave use typeless ranged instead of melee and the bears use typeless melee. The large amount of highly aggressive monsters, coupled with multicombat nature of the cave and random factor of potential targets arriving from are intended to discourage player killers from world switching inside the caves as well as camping outside the entrances on the surface. Staying in the cave after a certain amount of time (approx. 30 seconds) will result in you slowly losing prayer points and run energy.

The fee of 50,000 coins paid for accessing the caves is now only lost on death if the player pays the fee and dies before leaving the Wilderness.

  • Minimap icons have been added for the Escape Caves.
  • Leaving the Escape Caves without auto retaliate turned on will no longer force your character to walk in a random direction.

Trivia

  • During development, the caves were also going to host skeletons, although they were cut out for reasons unknown.
