Salarin the twisted is a chaos druid found at the end of the Yanille Agility Dungeon. Reaching his cave requires level 67 Agility; this can be boosted from as low as 62 with a summer pie. Additionally, players will need to bring a blade to cut the webs near the dungeon entrance.
Salarin is one of the two NPCs that drop the sinister key on death, alongside the Chaos Fanatic. This key opens the Sinister chest, located nearby, which rewards the player with a guaranteed noted drop of nine grimy herbs (see below), including a torstol. The key is dropped at a rate of 7.8%, making him a common target for low-level ironmen who can't yet grow the herbs.
Unlike other druids, Salarin can only be damaged by strike spells, which have increased damage scaling based on the corresponding bolt spell. For example, a player with level 23 Magic using Water Strike against him will have a base max hit of 10 instead of 8.

Strategy
Salarin must be killed with Strike spells; melee and ranged cannot harm him, nor can any other magic attacks. When using wind, water, earth, or fire strike, the spells will always deal 9, 10, 11, or 12 damage, depending on the highest tier of spell unlocked, as long as the player does not splash. This damage is not affected by items that would normally increase spell damage, such as the smoke battlestaff, occult necklace, tome of fire, or the set effect of Ahrim the Blighted's equipment.
There is a safespot in the corridor, located on the tile next to the middle skull lantern on the eastern wall. Should the player mage Salarin from this tile, he will try to retreat rather than attack; this can be useful for players with low magic defence. Note, however, that sometimes Salarin will wander out of the safespot range, requiring the player to be able to tank a few hits as they reset the safespot.
Food is useful for long trips, but high-level players will be able to easily kill Salarin with little or no food.
Training and Rewards
In addition to the herbs, the guaranteed max hit from using Strike spells makes Salarin a decent NPC for low-level Magic training through combat, offering over 10,000 experience an hour. However, this is only recommended as a training method for those who need herbs, as other magic training methods at the same level offer more than twice the experience for a lower amount of effort; Salarin's slow respawn timer means that much less damage can be done per hour.
Salarin's 30-second respawn time means that, assuming no splashes and the highest-level strike spell, it will take a minimum of 80 ticks (48 seconds) for him to die and respawn. This results in a maximum of 75 kills per hour (not including banking) if the player doesn't hop worlds. Killing the nearby chaos druids while waiting for Salarin to respawn can greatly increase your profit and herbs gained per hour, at the cost of needing to bank several times. This is advised over world-hopping, and brings more profit and herbs per hour.
Players training for profit are advised not pick up the coins, black daggers, vials of water, or the grimy guams, marrentils, or tarromins that Salarin drops, as they only add up to 5,086.76 an hour. This will allow players to reduce banking time, and increase profit per hour.
Those who can complete elite clues, which drop at a rate of 1 in 500, can expect an additional adjusted profit of 64,192.95 per hour, on top of the normal herb drops and sinister keys.
Sinister Key
Players with average drop luck will receive just under 6 sinister keys an hour, assuming consistent 48-second kills. For each sinister key used, the player will be rewarded with two harralander, three ranarr, one irit, one kwuarm, one avantoe, and one torstol; this chest will reward players with a total of 31,814.37 worth of herbs per chest opened, or 190,886.22 worth of herbs per hour, not including the cost of food and runes.
Cleaning and turning one hour's worth of herbs into potions will give 6628 experience per hour at level 79 Herblore (the level required to fully process all of the herbs). As soon as a herb can be grown, it becomes inefficient to hunt for herbs from Salarin, as long as you can obtain a seed an hour (or two seeds per hour, in the case of harralander and ranarr).

Trivia
- Before the release of the Farming skill, killing Salarin for the Sinister key was the only way to obtain Torstol.
- He will sometimes say, "Your pitiful attacks cannot hurt me!" even when the player is using Strike spells.
- While he can only be directly attacked with Strike spells, he can also be harmed by recoil damage.
