Virtus robes are a set of equipment requiring level 78 in Magic and 75 Defence. They are exclusively obtained as drops from The Leviathan, The Whisperer, Vardorvis, and Duke Sucellus.

Each piece of Virtus robes gives a 2% magic damage bonus for a total of 6%. When using combat spells from Ancient Magicks, an additional 3% magic damage is given per piece, taking the bonus to 5% per piece for a total of 15% for the full set.

Compared to Ancestral robes, Virtus robes provide the same Magic accuracy bonus while sacrificing some magic damage for better defence and added prayer bonuses. Using Ancient Magicks however makes the robes superior to Ancestral robes, making them ideal whenever the player is on the Ancient Magicks such as bursting or barraging monsters or PvP situations.

Like ancestral robes, Virtus robes do not degrade, and can be stored in the magic wardrobe of a player-owned house costume room.

Virtus robes count as a Zaros item in the God Wars Dungeon.

Historical

Virtus robes were one of the original rewards from Nex upon its release in RuneScape. Compared to Old School RuneScape's version of the set, the original set had several differences:

  • Having the robes equipped made all factions in the God Wars Dungeon unaggressive, rather than just Zarosian NPCs.
  • The robes did not have a magic damage bonus, nor did it have a passive effect, and also required level 80 Hitpoints in addition to Magic and Defence.
  • Robes lasted 15 hours in combat before needing to be repaired and each piece of the set boosted Hitpoints by a certain amount, equal to 40 Hitpoints:
RuneScape 2 (pre-EoC) stats
Item Hitpoints boost Base repair cost Skill requirements
Virtus mask 6.6 500,000 Hitpoints 80 Magic 80 Defence 80
Virtus robe bottom 13.4 1,000,000
Virtus robe top 20 2,000,000

The robes had the following bonuses:

Appearance

The appearance of Virtus robes were altered as it, like Torva armour, were believed to have clashed with the "simple and bold aesthetics" of Old School's art style. The level of detail of the original was designed for the larger world scale of RuneScape, and thus was believe to have appeared "cluttered and out-of place".

However, models of the original appearance of the robes remain in the game's files:

Additional set effect

Virtus robes were also initially intended to have an additional effect that boosted the powers of Ancient Magicks when the full set was worn. This was scrapped during the second DT2 Rewards Beta as it was believed to be too powerful when used alongside the respective variants of the ancient sceptre, which at the time of the first beta, increased the effects of their respective spell types by 35%.

Spell type Set effect
Smoke spells Reduces the target's healing by 30% whilst poisoned
Shadow spells Lowers the target's Strength, Ranged, Magic, and Defence levels (in addition to Attack)
Blood spells Heal up to 20% over the user's base Hitpoints
Ice spells 10% accuracy bonus towards an immobilised target
