This is a list of the armour that is generally worn by players who are using the Ranged skill. Ranged armour tends to have high Ranged attack bonuses and good Magic Defence bonuses. Ranged armour is usually made from animal hides, tanned dragonhide, or some other type of leather.

Set items

Leather armour

Leather armour is good for beginning rangers. They are very cheap and can also be crafted. It comes in three types:

Frog-leather armour

Frog-leather armour is only available to members. Players must have level 25 Ranged and level 25 Defence to wear this armour. Frog-leather armour is made by the Dorgeshuun goblins. This armour is bought from Reldak in Dorgesh-Kaan.

Snakeskin armour

Snakeskin armour is only available to members. Players must have level 30 Ranged and level 30 Defence to wear this armour. Snakeskin armour can be made through the Crafting skill from snakeskin, which can be obtained by killing snakes that appear in the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup, Temple Trekking minigames or by killing snakes at Mos Le'Harmless Island.

The whole snakeskin set is hardly worn by rangers due to the huge amount of snakeskin hides needed. However, the Snakeskin boots and bandana offer most rangers a much cheaper alternative to the highly-priced Ranger boots and Robin hood hat.

Spined armour

Spined armour is only available for members and is Fremennik armour for rangers. Players must complete The Fremennik Trials in order to equip the body, legs, and helm. The helm, body, and chaps provide a slight Ranged attack bonus, and have an equip requirement of level 40 Ranged and Defence. Spined armour cannot be bought from stores and instead has to be earned from drops by the Dagannoths under Waterbirth Island. Alternatively, the raw materials can be traded to Sigli the Huntsman, who will create the armour for the player.

Ranger kit

Obtained only through completing medium, hard, and elite clue scrolls. 40 Ranged is required to wear them, with no Defence requirement. Aside from the Ranger boots, these are generally unused among players as there are better alternatives. However the Rangers' tunic and Robin hood hat are popular among 1 Defence pures as they provide the highest Ranged bonus without requiring a Defence level.

Mixed hide armour

Mixed hide armour is a set of ranged armour obtained either by crafting (requires 68-72 Crafting depending on the item) or by supplying the correct materials to Pellem in Hunter Guild.

Requiring level 60 Ranged and 50 Defence, the armour set boosts some melee strength bonuses that complement the hunter's spear. The legs only require 60 Ranged, similar to dragonhide armour.

Dragonhide armour

Dragonhide armour is the most popular and the recommended armour players wear when ranging. Free players can only wear green dragonhide armour, and must complete the Dragon Slayer I quest to wear the body. Blue, red, and black dragonhides are only available to members. Members can also craft dragonhide armour. Trimmed and gold-trimmed versions of dragonhide armour have the same stats as normal. Trimmed versions cannot be crafted. They can only be obtained through clue scrolls.

Green dragonhide

Players must have level 40 Ranged to wear this armour, along with an additional 40 Defence to wear the body and shield.

Blue dragonhide

Players must have level 50 Ranged to wear this armour, along with an additional 40 Defence to wear the body and shield.

Red dragonhide

Players must have level 60 Ranged to wear this armour, along with an additional 40 Defence to wear the body and shield.

Black dragonhide

Players must have level 70 Ranged to wear this armour, along with an additional 40 Defence to wear the body and shield.

Blessed dragonhide

There are six types of Blessed d'hide armour, each representing the six gods - Guthix (green), Saradomin (blue), Zamorak (red), Armadyl (white), Bandos (brown), and Ancient (purple). The armour has a +1 Prayer bonus on each piece, and offers improved bonuses over black dragonhide armour. All pieces require 70 Ranged and level 40 Defence except for blessed bracers and blessed chaps, which only require 70 Ranged.

Hueycoatl hide armour

Players must have level 70 Ranged to wear this armour, along with an additional 40 Defence to wear the body and coif. The hide body provides a +2 Prayer bonus, while the coif and chaps have a +1, over their blessed d'hide variants.

A player switching their blessed coif, body and chaps to hueycoatl can a expect a total of +4 Prayer and +4 Magic Defence.

Void Knight equipment

Void Knight equipment is obtained from playing the Pest Control minigame. It requires 42 Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, and Magic along with 22 Prayer to buy and wear, for a total of 850 Void Knight commendation points points. When the full set is worn with a Void ranger helm, it increases Ranged accuracy and damage by 10%.

Some players find it more effective to wear other Ranged armour such as Karil's or Armadyl armour due to the superior accuracy and defence bonuses. However where accuracy is not an issue, Void knight equipment performs better due to the increase of damage.

The set effect bonus also stacks with the salve amulet(i)/salve amulet(ei) and Dragon hunter crossbow damage bonuses, making it a popular choice for fighting Vorkath.

Additionally, it classes as a hybrid set, and as such gives equal Magic, Ranged and Melee Defence, thus making it an alternative choice when needing to use multiple combat styles.

Elite Void Knight equipment

After completion of the Hard Western Provinces Diary, players can upgrade their Void knight top and robe for 200 Pest Control points each, totalling 400 points. This enhances the set effect by 2.5% in accuracy and damage, totalling 12.5%. The elite pieces also provide a Prayer bonus; the other bonuses remain unchanged.

Crystal

Crystal armour can be obtained by combining crystal armour seeds with crystal shards after completing Song of the Elves. It degrades, requiring more crystal shards to recharge. Each piece provides a damage and accuracy bonus to the crystal bow and bow of Faerdhinen; equipping the full set confers an even greater buff. It requires 70 Defence to wear; 60 Ranged is also required to complete Mourning's End Part I, a prerequisite quest for Song of the Elves.

3rd age

3rd age range equipment is high level Ranged armour, and currently the second best non-degradable Ranged armour (just like its Melee and Magic counterparts). 3rd age range armour can be obtained as a very rare reward from hard, elite and master clue scrolls. 3rd age range armour is supposedly made from white dragonhide. It requires 65 Ranged and 45 Defence to wear.

Karil's set

Karil the Tainted's set is mid level degradable Ranged equipment, obtained as a possible reward from the Barrows minigame. When a player equips the entire set (including Karil's crossbow), attacks have a chance of reducing the opponent's Agility level during PvP combat. If an amulet of the damned is worn alongside the set, when the effect activates, it inflicts an extra hitsplat, dealing more damage. It requires level 70 Ranged and Defence to wear.

Armadyl

Armadyl armour is high level Ranged armour, offering some of the best attack and defence bonuses available to Ranged users. It is dropped by Kree'arra and his three bodyguards in the God Wars Dungeon. It requires level 70 Ranged and Defence to wear.

Eclipse moon

Eclipse moon armour is a set of ranged equipment that requires level 75 Ranged and 50 Defence to equip, which is obtained as a possible reward from the Lunar Chest in Neypotzli. It has similar defensive stats to Steel Armour but with higher Crush defense and Magic defence.

When worn with all of the other pieces of the armour set, the player gains the Eclipse set effect, where the eclipse atlatl has a 20% chance to inflict a burn effect on the targets. Whilst burnt, the target will be dealt 10 damage over the course of 40 ticks, or 24 seconds (1 damage every 4 ticks), and can be stacked up to five times.

Masori

Masori armour is high level Ranged armour, offering the best Ranged attack and Ranged Strength bonuses. It is obtained as a rare loot from Tombs of Amascut. In addition to the normal version, the Masori armour can be fortified, increasing its defensive bonuses to be higher than the Armadyl armour, fortifying requires Armadylean plates and level 90 Crafting. It requires level 80 Ranged and level 30 Defence to wear the normal version but requires level 80 in both Ranged and Defence to wear the fortified version.
