The ranging cape is a Cape of Accomplishment awarded to players who have achieved 99 Ranged. The skillcape and its respective hood can be bought from Aaron the Armour salesman in the Ranging Guild for 99,000 coins.

Like all skill capes, the Ranging cape gives +9 to all defensive stats, and also a +4 bonus to prayer if it is trimmed, which requires a separate skill at level 99. The cape is automatically trimmed if this condition is met.

When the ranging cape is equipped, it grants players the ammo-saving effects of Ava's accumulator. Completion of Animal Magnetism is not required to benefit from this perk. By default, the cape will only provide the 72% ammo-saving effect of the accumulator, not the improved 80% savings of Ava's assembler. However, Vorkath's head can be used on the cape to increase its ammo-saving rate to 80% to match the assembler (an assembler cannot be used as a substitute). This consumes the head, and will upgrade all ranging and max capes currently in possession or purchased in the future. Note that upgrading the cape does not give it the ranged strength and accuracy bonuses of Ava's assembler.

The ranging cape will also collect miscellaneous steel items (or mithril items after it has been upgraded with a Vorkath's head) into the player's inventory; as with the Ava's devices this can be disabled with the right-click Commune option.

It also has a right-click "Boost" option, only shown when the cape is equipped, that temporarily boosts Ranged by 1, to 100.

This item can be stored in the cape rack of a costume room, as part of the Ranging cape set, along with the hood. Ultimate Ironmen will be unable to retrieve individual pieces until the full set is stored.

As of 1 November 2024, there are 528,051 players that have achieved level 99 in Ranged.

Metal attraction

Approximately every 3.5 minutes, the ranging cape will attract an assortment of steel items, or mithril items if a Vorkath's head has been used on it, provided that the player has moved three tiles since the last pickup.

Players can commune with the cape to stop it from gathering junk by right-clicking "Commune" on the item while it is worn or in the inventory.
