The rune hasta is a one-handed melee members weapon, similar to the spear. 40 Attack and the Smithing section of the Barbarian Training miniquest are required to wield this weapon. Although hastae offer negative defensive bonuses, the fact that they can be used with a shield provides more defence than a normal spear. It can be poisoned.

To obtain a rune hasta, the player can either create one using the Smithing skill with 90 Smithing, 1 runite bar and a magic log, trade with another player, or kill brutal red dragons or brutal black dragons.
