Cactus spines are a Herblore ingredient and common Farming crop.
Alternate ways to obtain cactus spines include catching nature implings through the Hunter skill, or by killing the Kalphite Queen, which may drop 10 noted cactus spines.
Farming
With level 55 Farming, they can be harvested from a grown cactus in the Al Kharid and Farming Guild cactus patches, granting 374 Farming experience for checking its health and 25 experience for each spine picked. The spines regrow completely in 75 minutes if all of them have been picked. Players can pay the nearby gardener six cadava berries to have them protect the patch from disease.
One cactus can produce a minimum of 3 spines per harvest, where the Farming level reduces the chance of using up one of the three "lives" of the cactus patch, much like harvesting herb patches. The chance is 75% at level 55, linearly decreasing to 30% at level 99.[1] On average, the player can expect around 10 spines at 99 Farming. Compost, supercompost, ultracompost, Farming cape and magic secateurs do not affect the yield[2]; however, compost is still useful in protecting the patch from disease if not paying the gardener to watch over the patch.
Players may pay a gardener 10 cactus spines to care for a yew tree. Paying cactus spines to a gardener may be worthwhile compared to using ultracompost, as yew seeds are valuable and the tree can die without protection, making farming them slower; the cost of 10 cactus spines is 27,340 per tree versus 1,889.00 without payment, based on an unsuccessful growth rate of 1/8.
Herblore
Spines are the primary ingredient to make weapon poison+, with red spider's eggs used as the secondary ingredient.

Trivia
- Prior to an update on 12 July 2018, each cactus would always give three spines from a full yield, regardless of the player's Farming level.
