The crystal felling axe is a type of felling axe requiring a level of 70 Attack and 50 Agility to be equipped respectively, and a Woodcutting level of 71 to be used. Players can create the axe by either using a felling axe handle on a crystal axe while standing near a singing bowl, or by using the singing bowl directly with a dragon felling axe, a crystal tool seed, and 120 crystal shards. Doing so requires level 76 Smithing and Crafting to sing the crystal (the levels can be boosted), and grants 6,000 experience in both skills. If the player does not meet the Smithing and Crafting requirements, they can have Conwenna or Reese sing the crystal for them for an extra 60 crystal shards, for a total of 180. After creation, the player can revert the Crystal felling axe back into a Dragon felling axe. This process returns the crystal tool seed and the Dragon felling axe to the player, but all crystal shards used to create or charge the axe are lost.

Applying the felling handle to the axe is irreversible: a one-handed axe upgraded into a felling axe can never revert to being one-handed. The standard process of reverting crystal to dragon does apply. The crystal felling axe will start off with 10,000 charges, unless a previously used crystal axe was used in its creation, in which case it will instead inherit the remaining charges from that axe.

Crystal felling axes will chop at the same speed as a normal crystal axe, possessing the same special attack as the dragon axe, giving the player a 15% increase in efficiency over the rune axe, surpassing the 10% increase of the dragon axe. This makes the crystal felling axe approximately 4.5% faster than the dragon felling axe.

If the player is carrying forester's rations however (in the inventory or inside a forestry kit), they will receive 10% more Woodcutting experience per each log and gain a 20% chance not to receive logs when chopping trees (or tree roots in the Rising Roots forestry event), at the cost, of consuming one ration. This also results in a 20% chance to not receive anima-infused bark from tree roots.

If the player has no rations on their person, the felling axe will function like a regular crystal axe.

Special attack

The crystal felling axe has a special attack, Lumber Up that it shares with the crystal axe, dragon axe, 3rd age axe and their variants. It provides a visible +3 boost to Woodcutting (meaning that from level 72-75 Woodcutting, you can use the special attack to obtain magic logs from a magic tree). This consumes 100% of the player's special attack energy, though it cannot be used without the level 70 Attack and level 50 Agility requirement to wield the axe.

Note that any levels boosted above 99 with the special attack will be treated as 99. Therefore, you will start to receive diminishing returns with the special attack at level 97 and 98, with there being no value in activating the special attack at level 99.

Degradation

The crystal felling axe degrades like all crystal equipment, with one charge being depleted for each item that is chopped using it; once the axe's charges have been fully depleted, it can still be used to cut wood, but will act like a dragon felling axe. Wearing an elven signet (or Celestial signet) while using crystal equipment will provide a 10% chance to not consume charges. Certain actions that require an axe, but do not benefit from the extra effect of a crystal axe, will not consume any charges.

In order to add charges to the crystal felling axe, crystal shards must be used on it (this can be done before it is inactive as well), with each shard granting 100 charges, up to a maximum of 20,000. Dismantling a crystal felling axe will return a dragon felling axe and crystal tool seed to the player and doing so will lose all crystal shard charges that were previously loaded.
