White equipment.

White Knight equipment (also known as white equipment) is a group of weapons and armour used by the White Knights, available after completion of the Wanted! quest. To wield the weapons, players must have at least 10 Attack, and to wear the armour, 10 Defence. This equipment offers the same bonuses as black equipment, except for a +1 Prayer bonus. Due to the difficulty of obtaining it compared to its stats, it is mostly worn for appearance rather than use in combat.

White equipment cannot be made using the Smithing skill and instead must be bought from Sir Vyvin or another player. Buying a white 2h sword from the shop is necessary to complete the elite Falador Diary.

The armour can be stored in the armour case of a player-owned house costume room.

Knight rankings

In order for the player to increase their ranking and unlock equipment items, they must kill a certain number of black knights. The kills are only tracked after being deputised during Wanted!, and 100 kills are received as a bonus for completing the quest.[1] Even though the quest, as well as white equipment, is only for members, non-members are still able to increase their rank, provided their account has reached the point in the Wanted! quest where they must hunt down Solus Dellagar.[2]

Elite Dark Warriors, Elite Dark Rangers, and Elite Dark Mages are worth 6 black knight kills, and Elite Black Knights are worth 12. Killing white knights decreases the player's number by 1 per knight.

Rank Kills needed Unlocks
Novice 100 White chainbody White platelegs
Peon 200 White dagger White sword
Page 300 White med helm White plateskirt White sq shield
Noble 500 White mace White magic staff White longsword
Adept 800 White full helm White platebody White kiteshield White boots White gloves
Master 1,300 White 2h sword White halberd White scimitar White warhammer White battleaxe White claws

Players can check their rank by reading the Wanted! quest journal, with wordings of "I am currently a (Rank) White Knight with a kill score of XXX".

After reaching the rank of White Knight Master, killing white knights will no longer decrease your number of Black Knights killed.

When promoted to a new rank, the chat interface displays the promotion: "Congratulations! You are now a White Knight (Rank)!" There is no announcement, however, for being demoted or promoted again to a rank previously held.

Note: If a player gets demoted to "no rank" after killing enough white knights, Sir Vyvin will refuse to sell anything to them.

Strategy

The safespot for using a cannon in the Black Knights' Base.

The fastest method to gain rank is to kill Elite Black Knights in the Black Knight Catacombs with black chinchompas and burst/barrage spells. Using melee and ranged will be far cheaper, but slower. They only have 90 hitpoints, count as 12 black knight kills, and often drop doses of prayer, super attack, super strength, and range potions. Fighting them requires two combat styles since they reactively activate protection prayers based on your combat style, and getting into their base requires the Dark Squall robes, elite black armour, or an iron chainbody and bronze med helm. They also drop a significant amount of stackable jewellery items (noted jewellery, bolt tips, etc.), so killing these is slightly profitable. It is realistic to get from Novice to Master rank in one trip without leaving; there are multiple areas where you will only be attacked by melee and can therefore avoid all damage with prayer (if you opened the Solid Door shortcut in the quest, alternating kills on the elite black knights on either side of the next Solid Door will never be in the range of range or mage based enemies). Gear swaps, combat potions, and 6 to 10 prayer potions will be enough to go from Novice to Master in one trip.

If switching combat styles is not desirable or resources aren't a consideration for gaining rank, a good location to kill black knights is in the Black Knights' Base. The area is single-way combat, but cannons may attack multiple knights at once, provided the player is not being attacked, making safespots useful for higher damage output. Place the cannon just east of the table in the middle of the room, then hide between the chairs on the eastern side of the table, where the knights will not be able to reach. Players should equip their most accurate gear to maximise the cannon’s accuracy.

Alternatively, a cannon can be used to kill the black knights north-east of the Bone Yard in level 32 Wilderness. Since the area is multicombat, a safespot is not necessary. The knights will also be aggressive regardless of the player's combat level due to their location in the Wilderness, making this a good AFK option even if they player does not have access to a cannon. This area can be quite dangerous as there are multiple hotspots nearby, of which player-killers frequent.

Although in level 42 Wilderness, the Lava Maze black knights may be more desirable for cannonless-players seeking a safer, and still AFK alternative to the previous method, since player activity is much lower. This method is slower as it is in single-way combat, and a cannon should not be used if safety is a priority. At the beginning of the maze there are 9 black knights, though many of these are dangerous to kill as they are within view of a teleport destination of the commonly used Burning amulet. If the player brings a knife or slash-weapon for the web, just within the maze there are 3 black knights that spawn just after the path turns south. If the player stands between them they will have no problem AFKing for long periods at a time, as the knights have a high aggression range and are aggressive towards the player regardless of their combat level. If the player only takes a burning amulet and a weapon with Slash, and ensure both are kept on death, they can allow themselves to die, then immediately teleport back to the Lava Maze using the amulet.

If a player does not have access to a cannon or the resources to use one and does not mind potentially not having aggro, another option is the Black Knights' Fortress, where two black knights spawn right next to an altar, allowing for Protect from Melee to be prayed indefinitely. This is the best location for non-members.

Killing the black knight in the Port Sarim Jail does not contribute to the player's White Knight rank.

A Black Knight Kill Score is now tracked in the "Wanted!" quest journal and shown in the POH Achievement gallery.

Trivia

  • The number of kills required for each rank grows like the Fibonacci sequence.
  • Players' ranks within the order are different from the ranks held by the White Knights themselves (visible by their helmets' plume colour). This is because initiate and proselyte armour are a reward for completing the quests Recruitment Drive and The Slug Menace, assigned by the Temple Knight Sir Tiffy Cashien.
  • When compared to the armour of white knights, this armour has less shine, as it appears to not have been graphically updated alongside the NPC.
  • Prior to the black knight kill score being added to the Wanted! quest journal, there was a 1/1001 chance that killing a black knight would increment this counter by a random amount between 1 and 50 inclusive.[3] According to a code comment left in the game's source files, this mechanic was intended as a "supah secret bonus random kill boost to mess up peoples calculations".[4]
