Amoxliatl is a powerful Frost Nagua found within the Ruins of Tapoyauik, who serves as its guardian and is fought during The Heart of Darkness as the final fight of the quest.

After the quest, Amoxliatl can be fought again as a regular boss. Like Scurrius, she is considered an entry-level boss with attacks meant to introduce various mechanics that are present in higher-level bosses, such as quickly reacting to prayers being deactivated and controlling where persistent ground hazards appear, which are comparable to Vorkath's corrupting dragonfire and the Phantom Muspah's ground spikes respectively.

Varlamore Varlamore

Amoxliatl can be found beyond a large door found within the Ruins of Tapoyauik in Varlamore. By returning to the chamber with the statues and murals within Tapoyauik, players can use the lift platform in the centre (which appears after completion of the quest) to ascend to the Tower of Ascension. This unlocks a permanent shortcut which allows quick access to Amoxliatl.

An ancient tablet by the pillar before the door shows statistics related to Amoxliatl.

Strategy

A player fighting Amoxliatl

Amoxliatl uses three different attacks throughout the fight. Her standard attack summons ice spikes around the arena. Their initial damage can be mitigated with Protect from Magic but spikes formed afterwards deal typeless damage. An icy pool will form in the tile the player was on before the attack; standing on one will deal moderate damage every tick. Her two special attacks include disabling prayers before launching an icicle that can be negated with Protect from Magic, and launching several unstable ice blocks near the player that create 3x3 icy pools if not destroyed.

Trivia

  • The name Amoxliatl likely comes from the Nahuatl words amoxtli (meaning "book," or "codex") and atl (meaning "water").
