Overview
No herb patches are available in the starting area. Players will have a pestle and mortar included in their starting equipment. A player may wish to wear an amulet of chemistry while mixing potions for a 5% chance of obtaining (4) dose potions instead of (3).
Herblore is modified by the following relics:
Production Prodigy allows players to mix an inventory of potion ingredients instantly.
Training
The most useful potions to create for training purposes are the prayer potion, super attack, super strength, super defence, super restore, and saradomin brew. Alternatively, players may train by creating herb tar although it will be difficult to obtain enough swamp tar to sustain this method.
Water-filled vial packs may be purchased in the starting area from Jiminua's Jungle Store or Obli's General Store, see additional sources.
Zahur may be paid 200 GP per item to clean herbs and create unfinished potions.
Obtaining herbs
Herbs are most easily obtained in the starting region from the Herbiboar hunter activity on Fossil Island. Otherwise players will be limited to uncommon monster drops until they are able to unlock additional regions with herb patches or monsters with more common herb drops.
Upon unlocking Asgarnia, players can purchase magic secateurs, which increase the number of herbs obtained from farming and Herbiboar.

Obtaining bulk secondary ingredients
The following table lists sources of secondary ingredients that are obtainable in high enough quantities to be valid training methods:
Tertiary ingredients
Equilibrium makes the creation of divine and barbarian potions viable training methods for players who have unlocked Tirannwn✓ and
Kandarin✓ respectively. Potions should be decanted to one dose before the crystal dust is added. Potions can be purchased from shops in case the player runs out.
Potions
Not all potions are easily creatable or obtainable with all region unlock combinations. In particular, the ranging potion, super attack potion, and antifire potion have rigid region requirements due to the scarcity of their secondary ingredients.
Secondary ingredients locations
The following table lists sources for secondary ingredients in the starting area if available, and common sources from other areas:
- ^ 1.0 1.1 1.2 Coconuts are farmable with level 68 Farming. It can also can be obtained from nature implings with level 58 Hunter.
- ^ Cactus spines are farmable at the cactus patch
with level 55 Farming. It can also can be dropped by nature implings, requiring level 58 Hunter.
Restrictions
Certain potions have obscure region requirements in order to create them, due to quests or difficult to obtain ingredients.
