This article is about calculating magic damage output, not to be confused with the Equipment stat Magic Damage.

The staff of the dead gives a 15% boost to magic damage.

Magic damage is affected by the spell used, equipment, prayer, skill boosts and the monster being attacked.

There are various methods by which players can increase their potential Magic damage. The effects of most equipped items can be seen in the stats window (labelled as Magic: +x and Magic damage: +x%).

Maximum damage per second

The maximum damage per second (also called max DPS) is a magic attack's maximum hit, divided by 2 (for the average hit), and divided by the autocast speed in seconds. The autocast speed of spells is 3 seconds (or 5 ticks), except for powered staves (but not Tumeken's shadow) and the harmonised nightmare staff having an autocast speed of 2.4 seconds (or 4 ticks). These tables do not include accuracy. To factory in accuracy, multiply the DPS by the hit chance of a given monster (which is explained in the section "Calculating your magic damage output"). All values are rounded to the nearest tenth.

Spellbook-Based

The following tables show the maximum DPS possible for all magic attacks that are based on spellbook combat spells except for Magic dart. Since Magic dart's damage is based on the player's Magic level, it'll be shown under the section titled "Magic Level-Based". These tables do not include accuracy.

  1. ^ With the exception of Flames of Zamorak, the staff of the dead can be substituted with any other +15% magic damage weapon, such as the staff of light, staff of balance, toxic staff of the dead, kodai wand, and any version of the nightmare staff.
  2. ^ 2.0 2.1 2.2 The castle wars bracelet only needs to be worn when the game starts. Players should switch to the tormented bracelet after the match begins, as they will retain the castle wars bracelet's effect. Additionally, the cape and headwear slot are occupied by the castle wars cape and castle wars hood during games; these must remain on at all times.
  3. ^ 3.0 3.1 3.2 The Revenant Caves is located in level 17 to 40 Wilderness. Players become and remain skulled when equipping and wearing the Amulet of avarice; losing all items and inventory when killed. Gaining Forinthry Surge requires killing the Revenant maledictus as a top-damaging player. Afterwards, the Forinthry Surge status will last for 30 minutes. Calculating your magic damage output

Step one: Calculate the maximum hit

Maximum hit is affected only by damage boosting equipment and the base max hit of the spell used[1].

See maximum magic hit for the information on calculating the maximum hit for a specific setup.

Step two: Calculate the effective level

Effective level is affected by your current level multiplied by prayers used and skill level boosts.

To calculate your effective level:

  1. (Magic level + Magic level boost) * prayer bonus
  2. Round down to nearest integer
  3. Multiply by 1.45 if using Void Magic
  4. +2 if using Accurate trident
  5. +9
  6. Round down to nearest integer

Step three: Calculate the equipment bonus

Equipment bonus is equal to the Magic Attack stat in the Equipment stats window. Wearing magic gear will increase your equipment bonus.

Add up the Magic Attack of each piece of equipment worn to find your equipment bonus.

Step four: Calculate the accuracy roll

To calculate your accuracy roll:

  1. Effective level * (Equipment bonus + 64)
  2. Multiply by 1.15 if wearing a slayer helm on task or killing undead monsters with an imbued salve amulet.
  3. Round down to nearest integer

Step six: Calculate the magic damage output

To calculate the Damage Per Second, divide the Damage Per hit by the attack speed of the spell in seconds.

Spells from the Standard and Ancient spellbook have attack speed of 3 seconds, while tridents and staves that cast their own spells have an attack speed of 2.4

If bursting/barraging, multiply the DPS by the amount of targets getting hit (Note that maximum amount of targets for every AOE spell is 9).
